Blue Ridge
It's not quite fully spring in the higher elevations here. It's nice to travel up and watch it happening all over again.
These are from a recent trip. They're 11x14 and 12x16 o/p.
C&C welcome.

Re: Blue Ridge
Thanks for the clappers, Terry! The mountains of NC are a sight to behold. I wish everyone had a chance to visit.

Hi Robert - These are great. Where in NC do you live? I'm in Raleigh myself. I'm headed to Asheville in a week or so to take a workshop. I'm really looking forward to it.

Re: Blue Ridge
Thanks, Wyn. I live in Mecklenburg County but these were all painted in Ashe County, near West Jeffeson - except for the one with the road and red building, which is my great aunt's store over the line in Virginia.
Have fun in Asheville!

Re: Blue Ridge
Thanks, Israel. Yes, I think everyone of them is a little unfinished, and I haven't made up my mind yet whether that's good or bad. I usually paint them in an hour and a half to two hours and I never touch them up later. So it's either there or it's not. The size make a difference, too. When I was doing mostly 9x12 and 8x10 it seems like I had more time to cover all the bases. Now, I try to focus on what I think is important but I'm not saying I really know, lol.

Re: Blue Ridge
Robert, 2 & 4 work for me. It is intersting that you either get or you don't. Everyone has a different approach. I am a tweaker, I'll correct when i get home. I paint with Jon and he almost never does. Good work always enjoy your post. I wish i could paint in the NC mountains, perhaps some day. Plus grab some BBQ on the way home, now that sounds like a good day. Mark

Re: Blue Ridge
Very nice paintings!!! The one with the truck is my favorite as the truck really adds interest and suggests a story .

Re: Blue Ridge
Mark - thanks! Tweaking is fine and I've sure done it before, too, but recently I decided to try to finish in the field and leave it alone. Either they make it or they go in the pile to be sanded. That pile's a lot bigger than it was.
Lee - I appreciate it! That Chevy Astro's been on a lot of painting trips!

Re: Blue Ridge
Hi Robert. Whether they're finished or not, I think they have an immediacy that is better than overworking a painting. They say "Spring" with no doubt, and each building has a real character to it that's very nicely done. Good job.

Re: Blue Ridge
Robert
I echo with Marc. And I am like you I almost never touch up my work once I get home, because I don't know where to start not standing in front of the scene. 9x12 usually takes me an hour.

Re: Blue Ridge
Nice to see your work again, Robert. This is a nice set of paintings, true
many of them have somewhat of a sketchy/unfinished look, but they
all have strong subjects that are well done. I really like the last one, which
actually looks finished. Just a very nice scene.

Re: Blue Ridge
Marc - thank you!
Israel - a 9x12 takes me 55 minutes
Chris - thanks, it's nice to be painting again. I got broadsided by the flu for about three weeks.

Re: Blue Ridge
Don't you dare sand any of these down! I like them all, especially the last two.
You are really tempting me to take a trip north now! Are the mountain laurels blooming yet? Lori
