Jaguar wip
Well, I made a start on a new one. Again, something a little different. It took a while to decide. The ref image is from a disc I have full of royalty free photos.
I've started on the background, almost done. It will just be a vague fuzzy impression of jungle foliage. It looks darker in the photo than it actually is too.
This will be in my usual mixed media on fabriano hotpress, the background done entirely in acrylic.
The size is 14.3" x 9.3".

Re: Jaguar wip
Can't wait to see this one! I love big cats, I know you'll more than do this justice.
How do you transfer your sketch onto your wc paper, do you trace or use a transfer paper of some kind?

Re: Jaguar wip
Thanks for sharing this. I was wondering if you are masking out the white space and if so what kind of masking material are you using.

Re: Jaguar wip
Hello
Dee. Once I have spent ages getting the outline correct on the cheap paper, I trace it onto the final piece. I don't consider it cheating being as I drew it in the first place. The whole point of doing it like that is that I don't want to make mistakes on my fabriano and ruin it with the rubbing out and stuff.
Slaterza. I do have masking fluid to use at times when I need to mask something a little more intricate but I didn't use it in this because the outline is pretty simple. I managed not to smudge too much. If you remember the last wolf piece I did, I used masking fluid on his ears.

Re: Jaguar wip
Canis Lupess, I am following with interest. I normally paint strictly with acrylics, but I love the effects you get with mixed media, and I may have to try that.

Re: Jaguar wip
Ooh I was hoping to see an update this morning...we have to work on getting you out of blockbuster and into full time art
I agree, it's not cheating in the LEAST to transfer your sketch to the final support. I do the same thing, I was just asking on this one because your pencil lines look really light and nice, I usually work on board so I have to use a graphite transfer paper which make the lines too dark and hard to cover up. I am going to be doing one on watercolor paper here though and haven't checked yet if it's thin enough to trace the image on from my sketch, with a light box. I thought I'd check with you to be sure there wasn't an easier way I didn't know about. I'm guessing the lightbox will work though. I'd rather have straight pencil lines than the graphite transfer.
Call in sick and get us an update on this one LOL!

Re: Jaguar wip
I am working on the eyes, not much more to do now but I have a couple of days off from work so I'll be getting some more done.

Re: Jaguar wip
Here is an update. Eyes, nose done and chin almost done, will finish that when I have done the chest as it overlaps.
I have started on the muzzle area now.

Re: Jaguar wip
Thanks for answering my question I was just curious. This is coming along nicely looking a little spooky at the moment but I am sure it will all come together in the end.
