First transfer WIP

The Cathedral is a transfer of a fotocopy on a traparency, using metalic acrylic paint as the transfer medium. I love the way it transferred over amate paper on canvas panel but as far as the composition I am not satisfied. I don't know if it is the gold lettering that doesn't help much. To me it seems that it is all of the left side that is not in balance with the rest. The paint is acrylic, oil, oil stain, and gold ink.

C&Cs necessary, thank you!

Re: First transfer WIP

Mary, what a wonderful beginning. I love the colours, the transfer, the letters, but the image is SOOOOOOO small. Can you make it any bigger?

And can Mixed Media posts use the uploader or just the attachment?

You know I still haven't figured any of this out, but I will, I will, I will

Re: First transfer WIP

Okay, I am squinting and breathing into the computer (tiny little nasty laptop) and I see it better.

Did you make the transfer onto the amate or onto the canvas? I love the combination of colour and it looks, again, tiny, that you used the lettering on both sides of the comp? Did you?

And is this the lettering you used in the other piece?

I have so many questions.

Re: First transfer WIP

Hi Zoe, well I had attached it a little larger and got the message of it being to large. Yes, I see images posted big with the uploader but I still haven't figured that our either. I'll try and see what happens.

The amate is pasted on the surface of the canvas panel. I waited for it to dry before transfering. And there are also some photocopies of the lettering in the composition, in fact I think I had covered the whole background with the fotocopies except where the transfer is and then I covered with paint and took a caligraphy pen with gold ink and copied the lettering. It is that part that I am not too happy with. Maybe I should work that part more like the part around the Cathedral.

Re: First transfer WIP

Great to know that the transfer is on the amate. Lovely news. Now of course I can't wait for my sample

So, a suggestion: take a transparency and with the acrylic colours you've used paint some deeper tones in some interesting, and corresponding shapes that you've used on the LEFT (on screen) and lay it over the RIGHT (on screen) below the Cathedral and see if you get another view of the piece integrating. It may balance it or defeat that purpose.

The big advantage of the uploader is that I could go and look at it again and again w/o ending this post

Mary, you are GENIUS, sheer genius. I am as excited as I can be how successful you've been 1st time - splendid!

Re: First transfer WIP

Mary....I think it's terrific. Great job, and thanks for sharing the information too about the process.

Curious about size.

I don't see any glaring compositional errors, but if you're not happy with it...Zoe's suggestion seems a good one.

Btw...just to get a better look and really zero in on the composition...
I brought the image up to full size, right-clicked 'copy', then opened a blank word document and hit 'paste'. Then was able to stretch it, intensify it, and change to greyscale (which often clarifies composition I find).

I'll be watching to see what you do if you feel anything else is needed. I would think not very much. Lovely.

Re: First transfer WIP

It looks gorgeous to me Mary and I would love to see a bigger picture.
You can use the uploader ... just resize your picture to no more than 500x600 pxls ... upload the file and copy and paste the url into your message

Thank you Penny, this was fun so I will have to do more transfers to learn to blend everything together.

Chris, Thank you! Now I know how everyone does this. Now let's see if I did it right.

Re: First transfer WIP

BRAVA, Mary!!!

So glad there will be more of these to look forward to.

I was thinking today of a great advantage to using the transparencies...
if there were a need to use a larger image you could spread it over two or more transparencies and then would be able to see right through the sheet so they could be perfectly lined up when making the transfers.

Must try it soon.

Will be watching, watching, watching.....
