Iris Gold - need ideas
Hello All
Please show me what you have done with Iris Gold.
I recently had the opportunity to visit CR Loo and came home with not a jar of Iris Gold but a whole bag. What was I thinking? It had to be the excitment of being in a real "candy store". At any rate, I did an Iris Gold search today and got some good ideas, but would love to see what you all have been doing with it lately. Handy hints are always welcome.
Thanks, Sharon

What size??? That would help. Each size does different thing, IMHO.... Love the powder... and paired with mahogany pearls...

Not sure how frit is sized, but the frit I bought is like small slivers. Not powder.

Re: Iris Gold - need ideas
Iris gold is the BEST COLOR EVER! You won't be sorry.
If you put it on amber you get a gorgeous halo effect. Roll a gather of clear into it, then pull into stringer; flash it through a reducing flame after you apply it, and you have an incredible metallic finish. Roll a bead in it, melt it partway in, then flash through a reducing flame for a cool "tektite" finish. Roll a gather of amber in it, pull into a stringer, and scroll onto base beads for a wonderful blue-green effect. Squiggle the stringer onto a bead and encase for another cool effect.
Try it on ivory; yum!
It's an awesome color, all around.

Thanks for the creative ideas Kalera I use Iris Gold just pulled into stringers and reduced, but looks like I need to get outside of my little box.

Re: Iris Gold - need ideas
looks like I need to get my Iris Gold back out. (once my life settles down enough to get back on the torch)
This is a pic of it pure. Meaning pulled from chunks into stringer and then applied as dots. Sorry old pic, that has been posted before.

Re: Iris Gold - need ideas
I thought I'd post my beads, all smug because I love them so much, then Kalera opened the box and now I want to fire up the kiln and see what else I can do!
(I bought a kilo of #5 chunks from Olympic, forgetting that my only reference to a kilo was an AP photo of a cargo hold full of bales of uh, hay ...) I thought I'd have enough to last a lifetime ... and I probably do, I'm just a frit Midas ... everything I touch turns to iris gold!
I'm silly this morniing ...
Nolly
P.S. The base bead was rolled in other frit ... R107 I think and a yellow ... if anyone's interested, I'll hunt up the jar to see what it says.

Iris Gold is one of my favorite frits... it reacts in such different ways with different colors. It's the frit used in each of these beads... and see how the color differs in all of them? I love this stuff.

Krista,
Your in luck Val has some up on her site right now. So you can get a 4oz jar of the chunks and try it out.
Let me know if you need the link or just jump on over to her forum on WC.

Re: Iris Gold - need ideas
I'd love to know if there's a significant color difference when you roll it in clear, as opposed to pulling it into stringer by itself.
I used it alone as stringer here. Is the metallic more delicate if you roll it in clear, then pull? Which clear do you recommend - Effetre? Lauscha?
Thanks!!!

Re: Iris Gold - need ideas
Yes, it's quite versatile!!! I've only used it in encased beads. Maybe I too should dust off that jar (when I finally find it, lol!!!) and give it another try.
Kandice: You are driving me crazy There you are with those pink beads again. LOL!!!!

Re: Iris Gold - need ideas
What exactly does "Iris" mean?
What chemical or behaviour do all the Iris frits have in common?
