four head studies
hello everyone,
This is my first time posting here so I thought I would share a few of my recent drawings. These are all in different stages of completion - some may stay in their current state, others might go further. let me know what you think!

Gosh darn Eric! I'm in Montreal and checked out your site. Already registered somewhere else, but will keep you in mind in a few years. Definitely bookmarked for future reference. Love the artistic nudes!!
Best of luck here and everywhere with your art.

Re: four head studies
Eric, there is really nothing I can add. I do love the plaster best since the contrasts are the most pronounced. The last gentleman is great but could need more dark contrasts. IMHO
But all really

Re: four head studies
They show a lot of skill and understanding of drawing and the last one is an excellent portrait.

Re: four head studies
Thanks to everyone that responded! jayd - cool that you like that portrait and he is a great guy, he's my father! I have to finish this one - Reinhard is right, the dark accents aren't there yet but I'll post it when it's finished.
here is a quick one that is done on a chalk primed wooden panel. I used ink wash to create the background texture and then used natural chalks on top. This is 30 minute study. Thanks again.

Re: four head studies
Hi Eric, it's fantastic to have you post these. I see instantly that you're from a classical, Atelier background and it shows in your drawings. The red conte (?) piece with its careful use of edges and shading is just fantastic, but they are all truly excellent. If you get the time, please tell us a bit more about yourself.

Re: four head studies
Eric, I took a close look at your cirriculum, and it used to be that art students in Quebec, at the high school level, did begin their learning drawing from casts of masters(and even our own face or one of a classmates!). As well as draw master paintings like the Mona Lisa. This was required in case we wanted to pursue an arts degree at the college and university level. Sadly, it does seem like such programs and funding for arts is being cut across the board. My daughter will have to attend FACE, or have private lessons to get a decent art education now.
You offer some wonderful courses and I've emailed a few in our area who might be interested. My question for you is that you seem to focus much of your courses on drawing from life observation. My education in Fine Art is not nearly as extensive as yours and your partner's or even a few of my local friends, but I was never exposed past the rudimentary elementary stage to methods of drawing that included gridding and tracing photographs. My instinct as a learning artist is to reject them flat out because of the indoctrination of my first art teachers. I have been wondering whether it is because of where I was schooled that has made such methods something I hadn't heard of to a serious degree until recently.
Do you encourage and teach methods of tracing and gridding photographs or even paintings and drawings of masters as a means to learn?
I hope my emails get you at least one new client.
