Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Figure studies from life - 05/01/2013

Last wednesday was short poses day, terrific model with some pleasing poses. First a few 2-min poses, followed by 4 5-min poses, and then 20 min poses for the rest of the evening. For the 20 min poses, I tried 3 watercolors, which all were disasters. Then switched to graphite for the last 20-min pose. I found 2 of the drawings interesting enough to pursue in watercolor, so the last 2 watercolors posted are those I did at home based on the life drawings. Today, I visited a neighborhood skateboard park and tried a few doodles.

Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

Excellent sketches. I like the confident, lively line, the deft use of tone and the movement in the skateboarders. The watercolours are super. Great stuff.

Lovely floating of the paints in the watercolours. Question --- in the first watercolour, wouldn't the upraised arm have cast a shadow? Or did you intentionally change the tonal pattern from the drawing?

Good examples for all of us.

Thanks Larry! Am glad you liked the skateboarder sketches.

Hi Geoff, thanks for the thumbsup on the watercolors. Means a lot coming from a watercolorist like yourself. Re: your question. Well, it surely is my blunder. For these, what I did was quickly sketched the outlines/shadow shapes on watercolor paper based on the life drawing, set the drawing aside and painted the watercolor. Am sure something got blurred along the way and there you have it

Hi Sandra, glad the #3 and #4 work. Having a great model with inspiring poses helps a lot!

Fantastic -- you really know how to handle those big, cast shadows. It's hard to do that without causing a major distraction.

Hi Felix, thanks for the thumbs up! Cast shadows and how dark to go in them is always my biggest challenge, so I always struggle. Am glad they work for you here.

Hi Rob, thanks for that. Glad you liked it.

Hi Gianni, thank you! I love to draw and to share here with folks passionate about drawing/painting/figure. So am thankful for this venue also !

Hi Bill, thanks for the encouragement. Bumps and bums, it's all good , for us figurers, I guess

Hi Mike, thanks to you too for the encouraging words. Am glad you see some good things.
