My Yard

2x3 inches
casein on illustration board

These miniatures are very hard for me. I don't think my hands are steady enough to work that finely but I will continue the challenge.
Love,
Linda

Re: My Yard

Great job ! Miniature art is an art itself, and takes practice to master, as does anything else.

Re: My Yard

I like it Linda, its loose and free. So many miniatures are very tight and exact, not that there is anything wrong with that but it is nice to see one with action in it. Lori

Re: My Yard

Hi Linda
Your really giving this a good shot

I think my first question would be , what kind of brushes are you using?
Painting minis, your brush is probably the most importent thing that can either help or hinder your work.

I use pure sable kolinskys because they keep a point and hold a lot of
paint at the same time.

They are not ment for work in acrylics though. Just oils or water colors and gouche

I'm pretty sure you know all this but I thought I would toss it in anyway

I'm glad you are continueing to do them.

Linda - you sure got a lot of depth and layer in that purple tree ~ nice foreground too!

Re: My Yard

Thank you both.

I do need to buy some smaller brushes I think that would help. I have been using the casein brushes that I use on location. I also would like to do a few in the studio with more optimal conditions. I found some decent frames today at the photo/camera store. Thre were only 3 frames but they look good and are 2x3 inches. I also found some 3x3 inch frames at the Dollar Tree store. Jamie, I now know why you buy the frames first and then cut the painting boards. There are so many weird sizes in Mini frames.
Love,
Linda

Exactly! Linda, I try to save folks the trouble of painting and not being able to find a frame that fits, but it seems they never believe me until it happens to them!

BTW, I don't think it's true that your hands aren't up to this. They're looking great! I love the tree in this one. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do under studio conditions. I like doing both plein air and studio work for minis.

Jamie
