Now that I posted my painting I can't see my bears. What can I do
so that you all can see them clearly?

Re: Room To Roam Bear and Cub

I can see the bears Jody! - Lovely painting too - never thought about painting with Ac on sand paper - is it art paper or from the hardware store?

You could try making a larger file - resizing the image slightly - or if the colour isn't true on the monitor, adjusting it in a programme.

Re: Room To Roam Bear and Cub

Dear Maureen,

I painted it on sandpaper from the hardward store lol!
I will see if I can get my hubby to show me how to enlarge the picture.
I am still new to the computer and what all I can do with it. Thanks for the
suggestions.

This is wonderful, Jody ! I never thought of acrylic on sandpaper (I wonder why? )--I'll have to try it. Looks like it gives a nice texture. Did you prime the sandpaper before painting?

Re: Room To Roam Bear and Cub

Hello Dave,

No, I didn't prime it. I just wanted to see what it would be
like to paint on sand paper LOL . I love the texture of the sand paper. I am going to try a bigger painting next time. I'll let you know how it come
out.

Your little bear and cub are so cute, Jody. What a neat idea to paint on sandpaper. It gives a lovely textured finish.

I like the texture but I would be worried about the longevity of the support. The paper that is used to make sandpaper is not acid free and does not have a very long life. In fact, it becomes brittle fairy fast.

I wonder if if you can get the same effect by adding fine sand to gesso and gessoing watercolor paper with it?

Thank you Joy for lovely comment!
You know I can't see the bears on my computer.
The sand paper gives a wonderful texture but it will not hold up forever.
Oh well lol!

Re: Room To Roam Bear and Cub

Dear Tamara,

Thank you for looking at my painting. You know I have
never tried the sand to gesso and watercolor paper. I will try that sometimes
but I don't know have to paint in watercolor yet. I am just learning to paint! I did like the texture of the sandpaper but you are right the paper
is not acid free and will not hold up over the years. Thanks again.

Re: Room To Roam Bear and Cub

Once you gesso the watercolor paper you can paint it with acrylics.

Re: Room To Roam Bear and Cub

You can also buy a medium with grit ( is it marble dust? ) in it for texture.
