Smile rocks in water -- Finished!

Hi everyone,
Here is what I am working on the last couple of days. The photo was taken by Mark Smallcorn, thankyou Mark! I still have a lot of work to do to the lines on the rocks, the leaf etc...I know I am not working the whole drawing at once like I should but I am just not used to working that way, oh well. Maybe when I start artschool in September they will teach me the 'proper' way to draw ...but the main thing is I'm having a lot of fun while I'm doing it.
anyways here it is...
thanks for looking!
Christina

Re: rocks in water WIP

Christina,
I think it looks great so far. I have always liked paintings with water reflections. As far as working one area at a time, I do the same thing and I don't have a problem with it. Whatever works for you is the way you should do it. You can always step back when you get finished and see what areas need more work. I don't know what happened with the preceding post. When I submitted the reply I got a window that said the server was busy and then when I saw the post it was empty. ????

This is great!! I love the added leaf. I wish you would have done a wip with it. Maybe next time? Will be watching. wanda

Christina, sometimes, a girl just has to have fun! And this sure is fun! It's interesting to see work by folks who work one section at a time. You will see some other folks here who do work section by section, and are highly successful. Just a question--when you finish the whole piece, will you be able to step back and look at the whole piece and see that it all works together? Thank you for sharing this. I am very impressed at your skill level. And you haven't yet been to art school....?

I think the "proper" way to draw is whatever gives you the results you are looking for. This is beautiful! I LOVE water swirlies and ripples and reflections. This is quite stunning!

Re: rocks in water WIP

Christina this is definitely working no matter how you are approaching it. The addition of the leaf was inspired, and your technique is wonderful! To help the leaf appear to float above the rock, you may need to strengthen that shadow underneath it, and also look closely at surface tension effects. The water will curl up to form what is called a meniscus around the edge of the leaf - this will cause some distortion to rocks viewed through it.

Looking great! You are going to blow them away in the fall!

I don't know if you saw our contest thread :who did it? part 2" but I picked sunflowers after being inspired from your last drawing. Would love it if you could join the contest!
