The Scream

Trying a portrait with sponges only..... 20x16 on canvas, Yellow Oxide, Burnt Sienna, Napthol Red, Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White.

Personally I think this painting is a scream hehe...oh boy, its only the first.

Very good IMO. Your sponge work is becoming more finely tuned by the looks....excellent.

Thanks everyone for your comments.. I am not sure the sponge method is very flattering for portraits of a "nice" nature but for more impressionistic ones, maybe. The sitter might complain about her bad complexion Still It's worth exploring what works and doesn't.

Hi Mike from a fellow Kiwi.

I like the texture you have achieved with the sponge. It gives the portrait an amount of pizazz which standard portraits don't normally have. Great stuff.
