Mother's Day Portrait...
This is 11 X 14 Acrylics, my mother in law who is 67 years old; she is young looking for her age. I knocked off a few wrinkles, lengthened the hair for more glamour. We had recently had a falling out, LOL, she came, she saw and said, "who is that?" ( she was still mad ) but 2 hours later she offered to buy it from me. ( we made up ) She took this to her breakfast club for show and tell. When I did this, I had only done one other "portrait" a lily white skinned man on a golf course in Hawaii. Any comments appreciated.

LeeSmith,
This is Great! I especially like how you did the face and the textures of the hair. I also like the colours you have used and the background.

This is great - full of life and character! I love the tilt of her head - it really gives an unexpected quality to this painting and makes it really lively.
The only thing I'm not too sure about is that she seems very pink. Is that the photo?
best wishes

Thanks, Animal! I like to contrast smoother flesh with more textures elsewhere!
To Sandra, yes it is Photoshop, really broke up the colors, I just couldn't get it adjusted right. The Mee Maw is very tan so I used darker tones; wanted the portrait to appear evening light. I use many colors in flesh and shadow but they are far more subtle than this appears.

My comment is that it looks very good. Didn't she at least like it even if she thought it not her?

Tammy, you would have to know my mother in law to understand her, how she works. When she asked who is that, she KNEW it was her. Because she was mad at me at the time, that's how she gets her "digs" in. Even hubby agreed this time ( he usually does the ostrich thing, sticks head in sand when she makes her cuts to me ) After a couple hours, and ONLY after she was talking to me once again, then she "absolutely loved it" and offered to pay me $250.00 ( after insulting it ) LOL. I should have said "SOLD!" and taken her $250.00 right then! Would have served her right. I have found that she DELIGHTS in saying things to get my temper going but I have FOILED her, have found best way to handle is just ignore her digs. She is one who would give you the last shirt on her back but she is much like the proverbial M-I-L; she always says re; her generosity, " no strings attached" but you better believe you pay a price for everything; she butts in too much. I attribute 95% of the arguments in our home are directly related to her! But, God bless her, she is family and I have to love her warts and all!
