New Shape - needs name ( and what do you think of it?)
What would you call this shape when talking about it?!
I came up with it weeks and weeks ago, and got a machinist to make it for me. Then, I've been waiting and waiting to get it done (I wasn't a "big" customer.... so it took forever - and was pretty pricey ) . And now that I got it, I LOVE using it - but I don't know what to call the shape when talking about it. I looked it up, and scientific name for this shape is Frustum (a pyramid with its tip cut off) - so technically this would be a "Double Frustum"...(which is what I called the first set I put on the bay...) but that sounds like an illness...or something you have when you're really frustrated - right before you throw a tantrum...
Anybody have ideasfor a name that sticks? And what do you think of it??? Love it, hate it or anything inbetween? All comments welcome! Oh... and no, I'm not venturing in the tool selling business...I'm way to busy for that....this was just for my own beadmaking pleasure.

They are just BEAUTIFUL... and I like technical terms so double frustum sounds... technical but also kinky!

Hi Patricia, If those lovely beads were cut stones they would be called either a double sided antique cusion cut or a double sided modified triangle cut. Does this help? The color and shape of the purple are awesome. Sandra/saxon

Trishki, this shape is the natural shape of an uncut diamond, a double ended four sided pyramid. just call it the "diamond press"
cheers, Bernard

Re: New Shape - needs name ( and what do you think of it?)
That's a fabulous shape! I want one.
There is already a "diamond" press, but "cushion" is a descriptive and memorable name. I don't think "Jewel press" is taken, and it is certainly descriptive as well. From a pure marketing perspective I would call it the "Maya Press" or the "Pharoah Press", both of which will evoke pyramidal sensations.
I have to tell you though, if it were up to me I would call it the "Trishki Frustum" because how cute and quirky is that? Try saying "Trishki Frustum" out loud, it's adorable!

You're so clever! I like Maya Press -- very marketable. Now, if someone wanted to a description of the Maya Trishki Frustum, I'd say a truncated octohedron, but, see, I'm a total nerd.
