Weird email through ABU

I just got a very suspicious email sent through the ABU system. I am almost positive it is a scam.

Strange that they used a US address. If they really wanted it they would have bid on it. Since the auction is for a commission it is clear they did not actually read the offer. I wanted to give everyone a heads up in case they start spamming sellers at ABU.

Re: Weird email through ABU

I have heard that the new thing for the Nigerian scammers to do is to con a US victim to warehouse the stuff for them. So you send your painting to that address and when there is enough stuff accummulated, they tell this victim to send it to them. They offer to pay this victim ridiculous amounts of money to accept the items they scam from others. The US address doesn't raise red flags.

The Nigerians are ruining on line business. I think they are terrorists of another sort.

Re: Weird email through ABU

I had a guitar amp for sale on a local website. I got a similar e-mail, also one of these Nigerian scams. I think they must have people who simply scan the internet for items for sale, then hope somebody is stupid enough to fall for it. I was suspicious, so I showed it to a friend who told me about the scam.

Re: Weird email through ABU

I had exactly the same email recently. They have even now gone so far as to take a look at my art-agent gallery and hand-picked paintings. I have no idea what's going on but there is no way I will be sending anything anywhere until I get paid....

Same here - they picked the paintings, asked how much, told me that they would be paying via credit card.

I told them the price, and told them that I'd happily accept their credit card THROUGH PAYPAL, or they could pay via Western Union.

Haven't heard from them since

Eliza

I know you were being facetious, Eliza, but a word for those who
haven't heard- these guys send out counterfeit cashier's checks-
and can probably produce fake money orders as well. A good friend
of mine's son got two of these checks and cashed them for
the con artist (idiot boy-) and now he's responsible for paying
the bank back several thousand dollars. Why the bank didn't
catch the counterfeit, I'm sure I don't know.

Sorry, I don't accept bank money orders, or postal money orders. The money orders I was talking about were Western Union. They are the only form of payment, other then PayPal that I will accept from overseas.
