who says you need a perfect 45 degrees...lol

Hi all, just thought I would post a solution I came up with when faced with making a presentable frame for a piece I was donating to an auction. The piece is 16"X20" on gallery wrapped canvas. Now, I know most ppl don't frame gallery wrap...but I felt the piece would look more finished with a frame, but lacked the resources to do a pro job on a small budget (since I was not making any revenue off of the piece) with no real tools to speak of. so here's the solution to my problem. I went to the hardware store to find out what kinds of wood trim and so on they had...the trim was expensive...and I was budgeting....so I bought two eight foot sections of 2"x2" (which turned out to really be 1.5"x1.5"...who knew...I'm not a wood junky, so I know nothing on the subject...lol). SO, if you look at the attached image you'll see my solution...easy... and the 45's don't have to be perfect, they just made the quick fix look "rustic and casual" as my dad says it.

Hey, you're MY kind of owl.. er... framer!

I used to do the very same thing years ago. Cut straight across, stain it, and nail it to my stretchers (you probably didn't do THAT! ).

I didn't cut the angled corners though.. that looks COOL!! I'll have to remember that!

Nope...didn't nail it straight to the stretcher....but I did use the staple gun...lol.

I plan on using this technique every time I'm strapped for time on an auction donation...lol. The Museum curator was impressed with a "gallery wrapped...and framed canvas", she even went so far to bid on the piece...although she was outbid....by my own mother....

Now if I could just get my mom to buy all my paintings...I wouldn't be a "starving" artist (although I've never starved...but I have turned the furnace off for a week).
