WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
Our webpage is almost finished. We would appreciate hearing your ideas for a host.
Who do you like in particular & why?
What are the features you would recommend?
Who do you not like & why?
Basically what should we consider in choosing a host?
This site has been an invaluable resource for the assistance we have received -- Whenever we have questions this is where we come first.
Thank you to EVERYONE here.
Bette

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
Hi Bette, I use powweb.com
You get LOT'S of space 1000 mg, 5 GB a day traffic (not per month) they rarely if ever go down, you ARE allowed to sell from your site and that's important, because if you read the small print from many companies, that's a no no, and I've been using them for about 2 years now.
There's a forum to use, it's set up EXACTLY like WC, so if you have a problem, they're there to help you.
It's $7.77 a month, you get an 2 extra months free if you pay by the year.
I've recommended them here and I think that everyone's been happy.

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
Hi Bette,
I think that there are quite a few good ones. I use www.godaddy.com and have been happy. They have good prices and are helpful when I have a problem.

thank you in advance
In my first post I should also have said that I'll be checking this often in the next few days.
Thank you to everyone in advance -- I will check out each recommendation but will not clutter the threads again with thank yous. Your input is greatly appreciated

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
I use Homestead.com . . . . . hey Lenda, I thought you did too (???)
I chose Homestead basically because it's easy to use, easy to modify your pages, etc without knowing code. You can probably find hosts less expensive than Homestead (I pay $15/month), but for me it's a good deal because it's just a point-n-click, copy-n-paste setup.
Good luck

Nope Ginny, I only recommend them when people ask for a host with a built in website builder. But I just saw that Powweb ALSO has one, they didn't before. So I'm still going with my recommendation of powweb, and it's half the price of homestead.
Just read the fine print on the host you pic, most don't allow you to set up a commerce site.

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
I use imagelinkusa.net and am very, very happy with them. They're inexpensive (10 gigs of space, 100 MB service for $7/month) and have all the bells and whistles (email, databases, server reports, CGI, etc.), but the biggest thing is that whenever I have a question, their tech support gets back to me very quickly (often within an hour or so) and is unbelievably responsive whenever I need them to do anything for me.

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
I have been with Tom for more than a year. He just upgraded servers and THIS IS THE BEST deal and really very dependable too...
$50 a year for 100 megs of space, your own domain name and he has a store front for you too AND no extra fee for a site that sells...
yes a year!
here is the link...I get nothing out of this...!
it also includes a WYSIWYG editor.
I am just passing along a great deal!

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
I use www.bgfweb.com and I think they are great. Good uptime, and the price is the best I have found for the services provided. I have a multiple domain account with them, and my mother has a single domain account. If you sign up with them my referrer ID is 24 You can also google them and sometimes find specials posted on hosting forums, but those are usually for larger packages.
My sites:
www.realgsd.info
www.tarheelweb.com (dev only ATM)
Mom's site:

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
Hi! After lots of research...I went with powweb...I am officially under construction! There were a couple of hosts cheaper but I either didn't like their site, or there were lots of typos, or looked unprofessional to me I just skipped them....
I am excited to have an official domain name and but now overwhelmed because I have no idea how to build a website....my husband has a program so I'll have to find the time to check it out - I'll have to hurry as he's as excited as me and will probably build it for me....(we have very different ideas about it tho...)
Anyway... I am going to be known as wildwiredesigns.com
Yah!!!!
Thank you for all that replied - it really helped me narrow it down from $30 per month (locally) to $7 per month

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
Any more suggestions?
I haven't checked out all of these as well as I would like but hate to think there is one we could miss.

Re: WEBPAGE HOST recommendations?
I use http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/ and have recommended them to several clients (I used to do web design) and we have all been very happy with them. Service is great, support is great... and it's super affordable.
