Pastelist, if you have any links to works online by Georgia OKeefe, you can post them here. Some members may not be familiar with her work.

Just a reminder to everyone, painting in the style of is not copying someone's work We have a lot of great reference images in the library that would make wonderful "close-focus" subjects.

Thanks,
carly

I've signed up too - I have a photo that will be just perfect for this. May try to do one in soft and one in oil pastels - might be interesting to see the differences -

I've signed up. Hadn't heard of Georgia O'Keefe until I did a close up of an orchid for the WDE some time back and several people very kindly said it reminded them of O'Keefe, so I really have to have a go at this one.

This is a cornflower that's blooming out-of-season in a flower pot outside my studio window so I decided to use it for my subject. It's on watercolor paper underpainted with the orange Createx Pure Pigment. The digital picked up the strokes of oil pastel over the underpainting nicely but in real life, this still looks orange all over!

Will be interesting to see if I can maintain the abstract shape while I add the color to distinguish the petal shapes. Now I'm off to do some blending See ya later!

This turned out lovely. The softness of the petals and the energy and boldness of the inner flower. Also has that abstract feel that Georgia O'Keefe showed in her paintings of flowers.

Hi all,
This is my entry into this fun project. I used a photo from the RIL as a reference. Soft pastels on 8x10 Wallis paper.

Katy,
Perfect subject for an O'Keefe painting! The rich colors leap off the screen. Can't believe it's so small in real life!!

Watergirl,
this could be a watercolor with the flowing lines softly blending together. Wonderful abstract quality, too. I didn't do as well in capturing that feel as you did. I'll have to try another one using the softies
