Mature new art student needs portfolio, help!

Hi,
As a result of an injury 17 months ago I am unable to do any of the jobs that I have been trained to do, I need to have a sitting job or at least be able to sit when required. I have the opportunity to take a course in Rich Media Applications, which is a really exciting prospect. I will be required to submit a portfolio . I was very artistic in high school and have been artisitic and crafty for the past years but I don't know what I should prepare for a portfolio. I believe I can do this I just need some guidance because I don't want to blow it by submitting a poor portfolio. All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks all in advance..............Helen

Hey Helen,

The first thing I would advise you to do is check with your educational institution to see if they have any portfolio guidelines they would like you to follow. That way, you can get a really good idea of what your school is looking for in a portfolio. Different schools and different programs will want to see different things in your portfolio. It would help us help you (and you not panic too much) if you got some of that info first.

Report back what you find.

Sara

Hi Helen,

Welcome to WetCanvas! .
You might want to head over to the Student's Dorm forum for some advice. A very helpful 'sticky' thread in that forum is Building Your Portfolio. That should answer most of your questions.

Hi Chicer,
Welcome to Wet Canvas
I'm moving your question over the Students Dorm. The folks there should be able to assist. Good luck.

I'm an art student and I have been told and learned a few things about building a portfolio.
The main thing I know is to present only your best work and to put your very best work at the front of the folio. It is also nice to show a range of art to let them know what you are able to do.
That's pretty much all I've learnt so far, hope that helps. And like the others said go and find out what it is they want to see, that should help.
