Still Life...Behind the Scenes

I started this one on the weekend. Just finished it now. I spent most of the time on the little details. It was much more complicated than fruit!

Can you guess the irony in this painting?

i like this and yes get the irony...cute.

what bothers me is the linseed oil jar looks like it's leaning over. the reason is your perspective is off on it. where's your vanishing points?

You dashed it off? The irony side made me laugh, great way to paint the artists implements, love the shading. Great job Maverick, welcome back.

Re: Still Life...Behind the Scenes

Thanks Arlene. About the jar...does it count if I did this on purpose? I thought I was making it a little quirky. It's the way I take photos really...and I used a photo for this. But since the perspective on the brushes and paint tubes are hard to read, the jar is the only thing noticeable. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea. The top, sides and bottom of the jar should be pretty accurate. The view is slightly from above and slightly tilted.

Thanks Irish...16 hours isn't exactly dashing it off, but I have noticed that I can work much faster than before. 2 paintings in 3 days is really fast for me. Maybe it's because I only have weekends and evenings now and I concentrate more.

Thanks Carol.

Re: Still Life...Behind the Scenes

Thanks Mickie! I've seen paintings like this before, but hadn't thought of doing one until the other day. I was looking around for some shiny objects and noticed my bottle of linseed oil.

I showed this to my client who purchased my latest pear painting, and they wanted to buy it too. I wasn't expecting that (nice surprise), so now I think I'll do another one.

Re: Still Life...Behind the Scenes

Thanks dudley...OK, so not to keep everyone in suspense...the irony is...and that's a word that's misunderstood by a lot of people...actually meaning "contrary to what was expected or intended" instead of a strange coincidence as it is sometimes misused...

I painted my oil painting tools with acrylic paint!

Now coincidentally...I realized I had painted with the actual brushes that appear in the painting.

Re: Still Life...Behind the Scenes

Arlene beat me to it.

It would be fun to paint some more paintings with riddles or some kind of puzzle to figure out...
