Bird of The Feathered Variety...WIP
Hi all!
I've just started this one of a Kookaburra....an Aussie Icon! Wonderful birds. As I scanned it to check my progress I thought I'd post it, anyway, at this very early stage.
C&C's welcome.
Thanks for looking,
Lee

PhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeW!! I thought there was a new species of invisible birds! Head shows at feeding time so as not to freak out the heighbours! LOL!
Seriously though,,,ahem... it's a very good start, but aren't you afraid the cats will get it?

Beautiful start, Lee! Can't wait to see more.
When I was little, we learned a song about the Kukaburra in elementary school! LOL I can still remember the first line - "Kukaburra sits in an old gum tree, merry, merry, king of the bush is he!" LOL

Re: Bird of The Feathered Variety...WIP
They're one bird in particular the cats wouldn't consider toying with, Dee! There are lots of them around here where I live and I encourage them by every now and then throwing some meat scraps out to them...not all the time as I don't wish them to become dependent upon me. They are great snake catchers so it's handy to have them constantly on watch. They are wonderful birds and become very tame. I encourage all the birds as I like the cats to get used to them around and then they don't try to catch them. There's a wide variety of beautiful birds up here...including the invisible kind...I never see them, though!
Paula...I've been told before that in the States the children were taught that song...we were never taught it here...isn't that odd? Maybe it's because every morning we're greeted by their 'laughter' and the same happens every late afternoon just as the sun makes it's final farewell for the day.
Thanks Lisa, Paula, Bon and Dee for looking and for your comments...I'll work more on it today after I do some work I HAVE to do! The feathers are going to be a challenge...this is my first bird!

Here's a further update on this fellow...he's gradually coming into view and soon will be completely visible...I hope!
The wing feathers will take some time, I expect...I might get the feather duster out and glue some on instead!
Thanks for looking,
Lee

Re: Bird of The Feathered Variety...WIP
Ohhhhhhh, he's so cute!! He looks like a cheerful little bird.
What a nice job you've done on him Lee. The eye is lovely.
You know what I'm going to say.... LOLOL I think you can go darker - especially on his wings and the shading in and around the breast. Of course, I've never seen a Kukaburra, so I don't know what their wings look like. LOL
But, even as is, this is very nice. I love it.

Re: Bird of The Feathered Variety...WIP
Thanks, Lisa and Paula...I finished him quicker than I thought I would.
You're a terror, Paula! lol...the wings on the kookaburra are brown and a light blue...the darker areas are all brown...the breast and part of the head is white.
They're a medium sized bird...about the same size of a crow or seagull but much stockier. They are of the kingfisher family.
Thanks to you both for your nice comments.

You're all going to start calling me the "Queen of Darkness!" I suppose I shouldn't talk, when I look back at most of the stuff I've drawn, I tell myself the same thing! LOL
Seriously though, you've done a beautiful job on this little bird. You should be proud.
