Hails from Canada
eyes, do you have any insight?

This is a quick sketch of Mat, my nephew, I sometimes get to sketch the kids while I oversee homework.

Does anyone have a particual way of "Seeing Eyes"

-I look at the gesture of a mouth, up or down or zigzag

-I look at the weights of features around the head, long head to slight chin...... eg, flat dishlike face and strong chin or round face topped with slow curve of the forehead

But eyes, I think they are so special but have not been able to really put a finger on a strategy.

I have deep set eyes, but his are piercing, dark and calm, long almond shaped...I did't quite get them right.

Am new to pen and ink and have not tried a portrait yet , so cannot give you any technical help. However, IMHO this is a very pleasing sketch - let us have more next time you get to oversee homework

Hi Swan,

Mclaughin posted a whole page of eyes, but I can't remember in which forum.

With any luck he will see your thread and tell you how he goes about it.

Good thinking Ruth - mclaughlin's post was on 27 August 2001 entitled For Your Eyes Only. I found it by clicking on search at the top of the page and then entering "eyes" on the left and "mclaughlin" on the right. Hope this helps.
