Winter Landscapes

Here's a couple I took back in winter. Before anyone asks, the colours in that second shot are quite real. The whole day had a real glow about it .

Re: Winter Landscapes

Wow, Alan. These are beautiful!

#1. Love the POV, colors, and clarity. Also like the diagonal of the path leading to the foreground gate. Very nice. The colors and textues are marvelous. Only teesy weesy thing that bothers me is the symmetry of the mountains. I'd probably have cropped the mtn on the left, but I think I can see why you didn't want to.

#2. Gob-smacking gorgeous! The sky is superb and yes, there is a definite glow. Would like to have been there. Love the grasses in the FG. Methinks this is a view of the same place from the opposite side? Lovely.

Alan, I forgot what you shoot with. Also I'd love to know your EXIF data. Helpful if I want to try something like these excellent landscapes of yours.
Thanks for sharing these.

Re: Winter Landscapes

Thanks very much Moomiji & Eileen

I can see where you're coming from regarding symmetry Eileen but in this case I think I like it it as the symmetry is noticable when viewing it in real life* too
(*whatever that is )

Yes it's the same mountains from several miles further up the road. The mountain in the middle is Stac Pollaidh (Stac Polly)

Re: Winter Landscapes

Thanks for the stats, Alan. Did you shoot these with a wide angle lens?

I used the 18.0 - 55.0 mm kit lens which comes with the 300D
(35mm equivalent roughly 28 - 88mm)
set at 33.0 mm for 1st photo
set at 30.0 mm for 2nd photo

Oooooh and Ahaaaa!!!!

Love the depth in the first and the glow in the second. Is that a flock of sheep in mid frame on the first one?

Re: Winter Landscapes

Glad to see you've not lost your touch Alan!! Your landscapes are always excellent and these are no exception.
#1: I love the colour here, the streak of blue in the sky really sets it off. Great texture and composition, it has a very cold and bleak feel to it.

#2: There's nothing I don't like here, its drop dead gorgeous

More, more!

It does look like it aye. It's actually an area of rough ground which still has patches of snow on it.

Re: Winter Landscapes

Both of these are lovely. The first once certainly needs to be viewed at a larger size to be fully apreciated. The second one is a wall hanger for sure!

Great to have you back around here Alan!!

Re: Winter Landscapes

Awesome shots Alan! The sky in the second one is like a watercolor painting! Good job! Nice composition too!
