Chow

There are things in the wind and a trickle of cash in my bank!
I think I am going to be featured on a number of breed quarterly magazines, purely publicity for the first round, but they will feature me in an article and I will get my name out there.
The publisher asked if I had a Chow Chow.
I went to the rescue sites and found this little guy.
10x8" on suede board.

First suede disaster. Well, not really, but I snapped this before I fixed it. I usually use a fine mist of krylon workable and go in to brighten up my lights with terry ludwigs to keep it crisp.
The local pastel society had a demo and he RAVED about a new Daler Rowney fixative, which did NOT sink, kept things light and happy and was going to change my life.
Needless to say, it smelled better, but sank this nearly back to blue!!!
I redid it and have put it under plastic for the time being.
Lucky for me I did a high res photo first, so they can use it on the magazine.

Re: Chow

Lots of great news! And a wonderful painting to boot - I love the expression and, of course, the blue tongue - that really makes him a chow!

Re: Chow

He's great! How did you get the magazine thing - did you write them or did they contact you first? Sounds like a great boost to your career!

Re: Chow

DJ - He is splendid. I love his eyes, you've managed to really capture a mischievious look in him. The texture and colors on the fur are very nicely done. Hooray for you!

Re: Chow

I just KNEW that you would "make it", could not understand why it hadn't happened earlier. Maybe you just had to find the right kind of subject matter, a lesson for everyone. Lovely image, this.

Terrific, dj*! Love the blue tongue...I've always liked the colors of these dogs, I just never thought about the orange/blue split until I saw this!
