Unfinished Bouguereau

What can you learn about Bouguereau's techniques by looking at this? It looks like he used thin, wispy applictions of paint, like the way people paint clouds. That's all I can tell.

What does it tell you about his colour-scheme, how he achieves his fleshtones?

Also - this portrait angle (the angle of the face) is a difficult one to achieve! How did he achieve such wonderful skin tones? I see some blues and greens showing through which suggest an underpainting.

I believe it has once been said the you can learn more from an unfinished painting that you can a completed one.
