This belongs in a museum. It is ripe and important.

Yes. I like it. Passionately.

however, I wish it was bigger, much bigger.

Re: Contrivance II-"The Internet"

Super visual metaphor.

Wondering...........re tension - if a design element/device of odd number of pears might add more visual "pull" and tension re meaning.........dunno. Just thinkin out loud.

Re: Contrivance II-"The Internet"

Molly, I struggled with that. I wanted the symmetry. I may, however, add a little more "cable". It needs to sit on the easel a bit more, I think.
Thanks

Re: Contrivance II-"The Internet"

decisions, decisions, bigger, smaller, pattern, tension. it looks to far gone too fiddle with? I'd call it done; it is beautiful to gaze at. perhaps play with other thoughts on this one in the next one?

bc said; leave off with something you might alter, so you have a thought to begin the next one with.

Think that also helps with a flow maybe? though you hardly need that to hold these together.

Re: Contrivance II-"The Internet"

Thanks for all your thoughtfulness.
I have to leave it for awhile due to travel. I'll come with fresh eyes and a stack of drawings.

Re: Contrivance II-"The Internet"

i think the pear is a wonderful symbol for humanity and i enjoy so much seeing how you create a message; different and strong messages using only the pears. i am transfixed by the cable - i luv that part; the twisting

i think in this piece the title expands the meaning of the work - i viewed the painting before i read the title and i got the bound together/interlaced part but then after the title i had a flush of pleasure expanding that into ideas about technology and society

brilliant~!

Re: Contrivance II-"The Internet"

Here's what I like about the fact that there are 8: that's a power of 2, which is a fundamental idea in computing. At this size, I can also see this as one of a group of 4 (if 3 is a triptych, what's 4?), arrayed as a square, which would yield 32 (as in 32-bit architecture). The next power of 2 (64 -- an array of 8 paintings this size) might be a little overwhelming.

I'm also diggin' the resemblance of the pears -- with the palette and modeling you've used -- to human skulls. It says "brain...mind" to me, and telegraphs the individuality of each pear/cranium, as well as their similarity. Each "head" has its own attitude, its own gesture.

...and the light is like the eerie light of one's monitor in the middle of the night.

Yeah. Night isn't all bad. It's the place of mystery and reconciliation.

Thank you all, I greatly appreciate all your thoughts. The image was born out of my experience with you, here.

I suspect your head is, too. I'd like to run my hand over it some day. Thanks, Keith
