in need of advice!

hello i'm wondering if anyone can help me.

I finish my first year of (BA Fine Art Sculpture) university soon and want to continue working and getting experience throughout summer.

I am thinking about possibly learning a skill such as stone carving/masonry. I'm trying to learn more about intrinsic material qualities to gain more knowledge of materials, processes and techniques. The problem is that i would need to be paid otherwise i could only manage it for a month and so would have to work the rest of my summer so i can afford my second year of university.

If anyone can give me some of their thoughts it would be much appreciated!

I don't know what you can do now, that you might be able to offer an employer, and it could be that there aren't any jobs in your area that would teach you what you want to learn, so the best you might be able to find is an unpaid learning position.

Would one month spent learning, followed by two months working at a paid job, really be so bad?

Yes I have thought about whether to take the risk of working for just 2 months.
I have recently had 2 job offers working in retail to make it possible and so I plan to do both of them. I have also been talking to a friend at a bronze foundry who is also a student and works there to learn the process. She says i may be able to work there to gain experience but they might not pay me.

Thanks for your reply Keith
