This is probably going to sound really gross and weird... well. Maybe not to some of you who've seen my sculpture before.
After I went to donate blood the other day, I went home, peeled off the bandage, and let a little more of the blood drip into a small glass vial.
After it dries, I'll make the glass vial into the abdomen of one of my insect sculptures. And that's the same blood that will probably be helping one of the injured people, soon enough. Blood and steel wings, flight, it all kind of ties together in my mind... When I'm all done I'll have this as a kind of testament to that day's events, and the days that followed, and the people.
I guess I just feel like I have to make something directly connected. It makes everything more real, somehow.

Unable to paint right now. I have changed the first page of my site and my tinyhead, in sign of mourning.

no problem with not painting, nothing wrong with that
the vile-insect sends very interesting and apt. Good idea (not gross to me).

It's great to see everyone's art here, and the project is a great idea. I've signed up and posted a couple sketches, even though I don't usually sketch.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for sharing these meaningful pieces, and a special thanks to Miss Mouse. Your post and comments about art therapy in the watercolour forum inspired me to try sketching out my thoughts last night.
I still have one sketch in my head that won't come out yet. It's a Canadian flag hugging/ helping a crumpled American flag. I hope it will come out soon so I can show y'all.

Oh how I admire you for being able to work
I can't stop crying long enough to see the brush. MY recent painting "apricots" sold to the sister of someone who worked at the WTC. It is a gift for this person. Thank God he is alive...but he has been evacuated from his apartment and the painting stays with me until then. I want to write something on the back...something about hope...and gratitude and I just can't find the words because it all seems so terribly bizarre and horrible.

reiterate re protest idea
hello
yes exactly.
I am very very serious about the idea of an online gallery to represent
'protest against injustice' - a safer way to represent our feelings. We will be seen as something /people with something to say/feel if we come under the a
aucpicious of a gallery with a voice. Anti terrorism art is too limiting. There are so many things we need to say.
Where I am based we had a fellow called Martin Bryant go into a quiet peaceful tourist villiage in Port Arthur and kill families. It devastated Australians equally- regardless of it's scale compared to the horrors you have had in your lovely country. That's why we understand or are at least in
heart with you all regarding this tragedy.
When I talked about us running a gallery against terrorism I meant an
overall, encompassing gallery of protest against anti peace.
The Beatles had a sit in, the artists had posters protesting war and racism in the 60's, Goya protested in his way as did Kathe Kollwitz so beautifully.
I'm a phillistine when it comes to technology and sometimes it comes between keeping families together and united (computer obsession)
but why not use it in a form that speaks and holds our thoughts suspended for others to see? Please email me (fez@iinet.net.au) or just here if you would like to be part of it...any ideas, visually, professionally and legally would be fabulous and welcome.

Hurting heart
how do u write whats in your heart at this point in history. I was sitting doodling and found myself drawing this. I call it twisted heart cause its hurting so much it has no more tears to shed nor more blood to give instead it is at breaking point but still with in its heart is its loved one so badly missed. I do hope that when you send in our drawings as aprotest you will include mine.
forever thinking of you guys
