Skin the sun

Have you ever wondered what Cobain meant with the phrase "Skin the sun" in "Dumb"?

My interpretation:

Abstract ruleZ. This is made with spatula.
18 x 18 inch.

Keep the flame,

never wondered 'bout cobain, but
i think you have a very interesting thing here.
great ballanced masses of colors suggesting a
kind of body
maybe a fisherman
hauling a kind of a mass
into a kind of a vessel.
womb like but complex too

Hi Jerry,

I thought he is to pull something away, maybe a blanket or some sort of this thing (In fact he is skinning the sun).

This is my sketch I made before

But now I see the fisherman and the vessel. Liked your interpretation. Thx.

I could've sworn it was a different version when I opened this this morning

well, I must say I prefer the sketch, more definition and clarity.

The painting has some juxtapositions of color that are jarring (in a good way) and visually stimulating, but it just doesn't have the contrast my taste desires ...

do you paint a lot from music?

Jan_Michael: Thx.

J*: I changed the color of the figure, because I wanted to have the main attention on the sun.

It's ok when you do not like the oil version.
I am glad to know your opinion, and antithesis is always necessary for change.
I am not sure whether I will redefine the figure again (I am quite content with the sun) but either way, I have to wait for it to dry -
which will take some weeks, given the thickness of the layer.
I hope by this time my view on it will be another.

I do not paint for very long (about a year), but I paint a lot with music, and recent images are a lot from music. Most of my friends get somewhat mad because there is CONSTANT music in my room, and usually rather strange (Mussorgsky, Marilyn Manson, Faithless, some Gospels, Chants and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few, and all in a direct row. Also some great german bands)

ejfarrae: Cool. I hoped these attributes are in there. thx.

dornberg: You always seem to view right through the image to the core of the colors and of the angles and all. When you say "I like the colors" and "I like the angles" you seem to like the image. Regardless of content - color, composition and constrast (whoa, alliteration ruleZ) are vital for the message, of course. Do you look at the theme at all? (No offense!) Thx for your view.

Jerry: Thx again for looking. Thx for looking again. And glad you like it. There are still some changes to be made, for example, some flames dancing around the sun and coming from the hands, but these will have to wait for a dry surface.

Gee, my fingers burn. My dictionary has crumbled. Hope anybody did read all this

Regards,
Gollator

You make an interesting point in your comment to dornberg relating to theme.

I think in illustrations the theme is the message, but in fine art it is only residual - a fainter and fainter remainder as the piece gets more refined.

The artwork stands on it's own, if it still represents something else that is ok but secondary. If it still has a title, it may be easier to sell or talk about.

Time to provoke some discussion about theme - with senseless titles

I think it is a pity. I like Dornbergs view, because it gives me a knack on viewing the technique of my own pics.
But there are so many well crafted and painted art pieces where I just say "Mymy. aha. Well." and go on forgetting it in an instant.

Postscriptum: There is a german band called TOCOTRONIC which I hear at least every second day and where I can play almost every song by memory and heart on my guitar.

They can't sing.
They can't play.

But they do so very enthusiastically. The mood is superb, the text is spontaneous and often not very complex, but it carries the message and delivers it savely.

I do not claim to be a good singer or a good player, but I think I am better than them. So I once played 3 or 4 songs to friends on a campfire session, and they all started to like the songs although they disliked or ignored them from the Band. Nowadays most of them are TOCOTRONIC fans.
