Wippin along: A couple of WIPs

Hey!
I said a while back I'd try to do this with the new panels I was getting ready to start. Neither are finished yet, but I figured I'd show you some of the steps along the way so far. Both are 18 x 24's. I started out with the plain gessoed board (using acrylic gesso on these), and then I worked onto that with charcoal.
This one is Tree:

Then I went back into the charcoal with more gesso. I used a painting knife and a 5 in 1. This is a 5 in 1:

This one is Slight DiscorDance, after the gesso:

This is Tree, after the gesso:

Aurorapope this is fantastic I love how it came out. You can really have some fun doing different shapes and images with this kind of technique.

Re: Wippin along: A couple of WIPs

Then I let that dry. I had gone over the heavy dark lines with oils also, but I decided I wanted the lines to be skinnier, and more deeply embedded in the textured paint. Only Slight DiscorDance was dry enough to work yesterday, so I went back into it with titanium white, still scratching and scribbling and scraping. And here's where we stand now, while we watch paint dry.

I figure maybe tomorrow Tree will be dry enough to work some more too, and I'll post again after I mess with it some more.

Re: Wippin along: A couple of WIPs

They sell them in the paint department of the hardware store. Incredibly useful gadgets. They're good for scraping, opening cans, screwdriving, and even opening beer bottles. If you ever paint with a paint roller, you can also use them to help squish the paint out of them when you clean them. No home should be without.

the stark delicacy of that last shot of slight discordance. man. it's 'there' already. how much further you gonna push these?
