Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Opinions please

Hi I,m a new member and this is my first post in the pastel forum. I have been working with soft pastels for about 6 mths now and am in love with them. I would value other members opinions on 2 of my first ones

Yes, Welcome to the Pastel Forum - very nice first posts and I hope to see many more! If you have any questions, just ask - we are a good group of folks offering lots of help and encouragement.

Tell us a little about how you did these two paintings - they are lovely. I really like the water scene.

Welcome!!
THese are good. I like what you have going with the water. What sizes are these? What kind of paper? Is the water painting from a photo or life?

Re: Opinions please

these are both wonderful - thanks for sharing and coming in to join the fun here.

On the first piece - the nude
My first thought would be that you could do a bit of blending where the value/color changes - but perhaps those are shadow lines that shouldn't be blurred at all. If the colors on the skin are that different in color - maybe there needs to be a more "middle" ground - a little blue mixed into the orange and vice versa - be very, very light with your touch.

However if your intent is to have that striking difference and this is your style - kudos!!!

I love the second piece very much and applaud you for taking on a beach scene so early in your pastel use. the water is wonderful - take a look at the hard/soft edges of the swimsuit where it meets the water - that's my only thought.

Now - listen to what the others have to share. Do post more!!!

Nice stuff! - I really like the girl in the pool (the nude's good too, but I like the composition of the other).
Welcome!

Re: Opinions please

thankyou for your opinions especially the tips, the beach scene was done on watercolour paper 325gms with a mix of windsor newtons and unison soft pastels, the water is done from a photograph but I changed the colours. I will post more as my work progresses.
