Oh I'm going to cry now. I had a big long story that went with this image. But somehow it's not here?
Well here is go's again:

Colour pencil and Watercolour on drymounted Canson. I mounted it so that the paper wouldent warp when I used the WC. I use the back side of the Canson. It dosent have the pattern, but still has enough texture that you can really layer the colour. The background is WC and the horse is CP except for his mane. I did a base in WC and then just added CP highlights and shadows to it.

I have the story of this painting but I'll have to do it later.

PS the colour is quite off on this as well, too orange?.

I don't think it's too orange at all, it's gorgeous, I envy you so much. I wish my horse could come out like this. Tell me where I am going wrong, please?

Great drawing and colors Twyla. I never think of combining mediums, but why not.

TeAnne: Your horse is excellent, very natural colors.

I love mixed media.
It allows you to use your artistic license and combine the best of both or several mediums.
Lovely job on your horse.

This is just beautiful, is it a horse you know? The 2 mediums have worked so well together, there is so much to do and try out but i will have to have a go at this kind of mixing.
A lovely piece of work

Beautiful work! Boy to be able to paint and draw like this, I would be so happy. Got to just keep on working at it, I guess.
I didn't know that about Canson paper either. I used it extensively with calligraphy and illuminations that had some watercolor touches here and there, but I didn't think the paper would hold up to much moisture. I also like Canson for pen and ink and graphite works.

Talking Every painting has a story

Or so it seems with me. Here is the story of this commision:

My Hubby (Vince) is orignal from Holland. When we had decided we were right for each other we took a trip to Holland for a vacation and to meet the rest of the family. Our timing was great and we ended up going to his cousins wedding.
Now everywere I go I take a small album with photos of my art in it. Mini portfolio so to speak. For a wedding persent I did the mini watercolour "Piaffe" (see below)As Vince's cousin loves dressage. At a dutch wedding during the reception you just pick a time when you see the bride and groom together and you just walk up and give them your gift. So we did and she loved it. Then the groom took us over to meet his cousin. It turns out that she is the leading winning driver of standardbred horses in Holland!! She took a look through my album and was quite impressed with the standardbreds I'd done. She tells us if you ever get up to Friesland looks us up. Well as it turns out we were heading up there the next week. (going to a Friesin farm) So we went to visit her. It was one of the best times I've ever had. First she took us riding....on three of there racehorses!!! She was riding Baltic, They put Vince on a mare and I got to ride a stallion called "Don't take no flack" What an amazing ride. She was telling me how Baltic was a champion and how she hoped to own him some day. When we got back from the ride she then took me for a drive!! Now I've driven minis and drafters but I can tell you I never went THAT fast. It was so cool.
She invited us home fro lunch were we met her Dad.During lunch she asked if I'd be interested in doing a protriat of Baltic for her. Boy would I!! After the cool morning we had I was more than willing. I wouldent think of charging her, but they insited. So we went and took some photos of Baltic. Who is very good looking for a standardbred, and they sent us home with a envelope of money. It turned out to be in U.S. dollars!! So I got more than I usally did for a portriat. She was qutie sruprised at the size of it when she got it. And is very happy with it.
She now own Baltic and has him as a breeding stallion on her own little farm.

There I hope I did'nt bore you too much.

Twyla that was a wonderful story!

Thanks for sharing, sometimes its nice to know the story of a special piece someone has done, why it means so much to them. Especially if those feeling come thru in the final image.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow what a great story. You have many great memories, thank you for sharing. John and I visited Holland on our 25 wedding anniversary. My favorite town was Harlem. We went at tulip time.
