Hails from Canada
Hidden Treasure

Watercolor
21' x 14' painterd on 300 lb Arches ruff
I came across this scene while camping on Vancouver Island. I attempted to get the high contrast of the dark forest and the shaft of light that sometimes penitrates the gloom.

When we look at a piece of art work it has to form some kind of connection to the viewer. It must evoke a memory or stir the imagination or it will fail to cause the person to return to it and examine it further. By painting some of natures hidden treasures I hope to bring the viewer back to places or times that are stored in their memories.

I really like the contrast between the leaves and background as well as the tree itself. Great job!

A very strong piece!

What does bother me is that one leaf above center nearer the top which has that background dark color acting as a halo around it. Any way to lift that color out a bit or wash it out more unified? I just can't seem to find my eyes able to leave that spot alone.

Other than that....this is "A" number one professional!

Really wonderful watercolor! It is rich and lightfilled. The lit folliage is wonderfully rendered. I liked BillyG's reference to young and old...I might have missed the analogy, but it fits and adds something too. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your paintings.

Thank you all for your comments.
Larry I can not remove the halo effect as it would ruin the background wet-in-wet effect.
I think the young and old analogy is good as we have new life and the old established tree protecting the new sapling
Leaflin, Fink, Yorky, Brenda and Billyg thanks for the votes of confidence
