No need to be nervous Brian... the waters fine... just jump in!
Let this be your first of many... Welcome!
You have been quite busy today on the forum... hope you keep it up.

Ah... your first post... Congrats! I like the tonal value and pose of this one... very dramatic. I'm at work with a poor monitor before me so I can't quite make out the medium you have done this in... is it charcoals or acrylics?

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Rosic

I also like the dramatic, impressionistic feel of this.

Is there a particular look you are going for with your work? Realism, impressionism, etc.?

Not that I'm good at it myself, but the lighting seems a bit confusing. Under her head there is a big shadow, indicating that light is coming from the top right of the painting. But, then you move down the torso and the shadows are indicating the light is coming from the left side. This is normal when you have multiple light sources, but it's kind of in conflict here. I would think there would be secondary shadows, meaning a lighter shadow for the head and torso from the second lights.

Excellent point...

Re: Well -- Here goes nothing

I kind of thought that the lighting was a bit strange when I first started aswell... but that was what was in the reference photo I used... maybe they were using two pot lights that only lit certain areas.. top right for her upper body, and kinda 'backish' left form the lower body??

As far as a style.. I really couldn't say.. nothing was in mind when I say down.. certainly not a photorealistic drawing no.. but nothing in particular..

Thanks very much for the input so far, I am really excited to use this forum to build on my limited skills..
Brian

Welcome to the figure forum Brian. You have a wonderful Rembrandt-ish style with your chiaroscuro.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work here.

The main thing I saw was that the left (my left) brest was way bigger than the right. I liked your stlye and dramatic pose. Keep it up, and you will see a great improvement in your art. I have in mine.
