3 Portrait Studies

Here are my lastest. Beat 18 x 24. Beyonce 16 x 24 and Jolie 16 x 24. All oil on canvas. I am not painting for perfection. I am still in the learning phase, and have decided to paint when I can, and when the session is over, I take what I can and learn from it. I get too caught up in perfection and now I just paint to get some mileage. Beat was done from imagination and the others from photos. All alla prima. Any insights welcome.

I like the first...lots of energy there. Think maybe you could use more color varience for the skin tones, you don't have to go for realism but try to define what you DO want to go for. You can pick certain features and catch an image that is recognisable without all the time element. But if you are working towards a more realistic look, then nothing but time will achieve that...and practice like you're doing!

Great advice about varying the skin tone. I really appreciate you advice. I am definately not going for realism. I love the paintery look. It's funny people tend to dig my imaginitive stuff more than copying. However, I guess it is important to learn from photos.

I will add what you shared with me and carry it to my next adventure.

Thanks, again
