Help my family is running away !

I discovered the following document on the net:
Syllabus drawing and tried to do
30 minutes selfportrait as my family is running away as soon as I show up with the drawing board.
Strange behaviour isn`t it.
Any explanations from your side ??

However this can`t be the reason as all of the family look as good as me.

Perhaps you could have a seat on the couch and we can talk for a minute or two. Now, just how long have you had this "vision" of yourself?

Does it come over you all of a sudden? Or does it grow with time? Are there any self-destructive impulses?

Actually, it's very good. It kind of reminds me of the movie posters back in the fifties and sixties when they attempted a shocking realism, tempered by artistry.

I guess something is good when it compels me to return to the image for another look. If that's the definition, then this works.

actually it is a very good portrait , but the zombi appearance you give to the drawing is due to much focus ,
try to not finish your piece all at once, because this rash cause such alien, Good job

hey man, no harm feelings , all i said to be more patient on drawing and give it all the it need to be done , i like the 2nd one more, i see you get progress here, draw what you like no matter the others think, you are a true artist inside, OK

Thank you everybody for joining me on this not very serious trip to my true self

It´s good fun to do these exercises without to much stress in front of the mirror.
I found the link which I attached in the beginning quite interesting as it gives some information about the organisation and expectations that Erling Sjovold has
in his art courses.
He even reqests the student to do at least 22 portraits on the same sheet of paper.

I have a question...Perhaps I missed where is says what you are using....for material...and you are doing these drawings in 30 mins? Are you serious....cause if you are that is just exceptional for that time period....I find most people that have alot of negative critisism...to my art....(cause I do lots of nudes and non stereo typical "normal").....Don't spend a lot of time in front of mirrors themselves......

Hello Ben,

I use charcoal on a 170gr drawing paper
in size ca. 18X24" and I try to finish latest after 30 minutes.
The one with the hat has taken a bit longer about 40 minutes.
The sceptical look was over after 20 minutes already.
So I take 30 minutes for one of them

Martin! These are great drawings and I mean it. Your drawings are different from what most people can do, yours are stylish and full of texture, and I like your darks. I am weak at drawing, need to start practicing with charcols.
By the way, if your family dont want to model, you can get them to watch a TV show they like or rent a movie for them on their wish list and draw them watching tv. Franck did a brilliant painting like this:

I am sure you will love the charcoal !
Of course I know the TV-trick. But what do the do ?
They hide behind pillows, jump around push out the tongue etc..
