Abondoned Logging Operation

Monday this week my husband and I took a ride north of us to
Mendocino County. We went to visit my brother who has a camp back in the mountains above Boonville. There used to be a logging operation there years ago and these are the ramains of that operation.
#1 The office and pay station

#2 Across from the office. Not sure what this was used for. Most likely a repair shop.

#4

#5 It's been there so long a tree has grown out the middle.

Wonderful Maria. I love the setting and the old buildings. The old tractor is great as is that last shot of the old cart wheel (?) But best of all, I love the colour of those ferns around the building in #1. Just superb.

Veddy interesting!!

But I love the shot with the barbecue grill sitting in the shed. Guess they liked a good steak while they worked, eh?

LOL MJ. Well spotted....I should have cloned that out as it does look out of place. This property is owned by a family that uses it in the summer. There used to be a farm house here but it burned down a few years ago. Right now the property is in dispute in the family as to who is going to get it. Apparently there wasn't a proper will and some of the heirs are lawyers. At first they didn't want it and told the one who has always used the property that he could have it, but then the lumber company approached them about logging it again, as it has regrown from the first logging. That's big bucks, and so the dispute.....

There are hundreds of acre of second growth redwoods and some old growth redwood groves that we are hoping they won't allow to be logged. Those areas should be kept as they are, but you know how greed is. I fear that those lovely groves will be only a memory in only a few minds as not many get to enjoy this area. We have to go through several locked gates to get so far back into the mountains.
Here's looking at a section on new growth forest. Also you can see that there are other species of trees, notice that huge Madrone tree....

This area is several miles on dirt road and through two locked gates. Here's Tom unlocking the second gate.

Depending on the outcome of the dispute amoung the relatives the day may come that we will no longer be able to use this area. That's sad for my brother who really loves it up there. But he's now trying to enjoy it as much as he can while he still has access to it.

I enjoyed the series of photos. It felt like I was there, walking through the logging area. Well done.

Maria-I was going to say it looks like a squatter's paradise but I see it's a family fight! Anyway , too bad someone can't fight for the trees! What do these folks think we will do once they are gone? Breathe exhaust? I love the first & last and all in between! Great shots & looks like I wish I was along for the ride!

Wonderful series, Maria - and a sad story. I do hope greed doesn't win but it probably will. The pictures are all beautiful, but nos. 1, 4 and 6 are especially appealing to me - thank you!

What a superb area, Maria. Your photos really do it justice. The old buildings and vehicle are a real photographic banquet.

I can't say I have a favourite - they're all really good photos. Usually when old vehicles are left to fall into decay they simply become an eyesore but somehow, in this instance, they appear to have come part and parcel of the scenery giving wondferful photo opportunities.

If, after the dispute is settled, these left overs from a bygone era are removed,I think in this instance, it would be a loss.

Thanks for looking and commenting everyone.

This is a beautiful spot and I can hardly wait for spring to come so we can go back up there again. There is still so much more to photograph.
