Heron catch and oriole ex A+W

The heron is mainly oil pastels, 17x11.5 , and the oriole is 12x11.5 in op's.

Aww, they are both lovely! The oriole's palette is spot on, very warm and pretty. Love the detail in your heron's feathers, as well as the fish gills. Great stuff!

Beautiful !
I love the small bird : vibrant colors and the bark of the tree is REALLY good !
About the heron with its fish, perhaps it needs a slight correction in the perspective (I don't understand the way the beak hold the fish)
This is nothing at all but imho it catches the eye and prevent the one who looks at this scene to appreciate the whole painting as it should be.

Your birds and details are beautiful and, I think, just right. You add life and texture without overdoing it, something I find very challenging.

I enjoy looking at them.

Thanks Terri, Frederique and Mary! Wrt to the heron 'holding' the fish, I had to look at it very well because the heron speared the fish

Ah ok ! Poor fish !
In that case perhaps you could add a bit of "definition " (sorry if I don't know how to explain what I mean, in english it's difficult) with a sharp dark brown color pencil around the points of the beak. And also some shadows (the cast shadow the beak creates on the fish's scales ?
We have to see that this poor fish is speared on the beak....
What do you think ?

Christel, superb work!
The first one is stunning! I love the deep, pure contrast and the detailed feathers of the bird!

Eek! Christel, your added lines of definition certainly show better that the fish was speared by the beak.

Nasty, but the heron's gotta eat, right?
