Lightbulb WDE Jan. 18 IMAGES are here!!!!!

[center]

... and thanks for participating in the Jan. 18 Weekend Drawing Event

Hello My name is Connie, and I am posting 17 reference photos plus an optional “challenge” (all below) for the weekend event. Please wait until all are uploaded before commenting - thank you. (And by the way, in case you were wondering, the above photo subject is not me.)

Here's how it works:

You have 30 minutes to make your choice and choose your materials - you may use any medium. For the next two hours, just go for it……then STOP!, scan or photograph your work and post it in your own new thread with your title, beginning with WDE, plus date, plus title.

When you introduce your work, please add a description of size, medium, support (paper, canvas etc) and time taken. If your work is digital, we'd appreciate a description of whether it's freehand drawing/painting, manipulated image or done using the filters available in some programs - you could also say which program you've used.
All are acceptable but we'd like to know the "hows, whys and wherefores"!!

Use WIP for any work in progress at the 2 hour mark, and MI for multiple images if other works are to be added before the following Monday.

NB. To avoid forum flooding, please put all of your work during the weekend, for the current WDE, into a single thread: multiple threads will be merged!
From the following TUESDAY, you may open a new thread for later work.

You have the whole week to participate - until the next WDE starts (usually Friday). If you finish a piece after that time, just add it to your next WDE thread and don't forget the original date.

After posting your contribution, please view others’ entries and comment and encourage when you can. Unless requested, please refrain from critiquing.

And now the reference photos:

And finally, a special treat – a photo by our forum administrator, Yorky, just published on Jan. 16! It is a TEA SERVICE in the café at the Wedgwood Museum.

EDIT: Another (better) photo from the RIL showing the handle:

Now for the optional challenge: Create a preliminary value sketch/sketches either for the reference photo you select to draw/paint, or another one in the gallery. Save it out and include it with your posting.

As we work with reference photos, a preliminary value sketch can help us “make the work our own” through independent creative decisions about composition (what we include, what we take out, what we move around, how we create balance, and the relationship of objects to each other) …juxtaposition of values… featuring the center of interest… and ultimately our color choices. The value sketch enables us to think about and play with such things before we “dive into” our final work. And I say that, recognizing that this is somewhat of an academic approach (which I’ve been reading about lately), and some artists like to “dive right in,” and they do it quite well!

Thanks for the images, I'm a bit late but I've made a start! I'm 45 minutes into mine now. I'll get it finished tomorrow evening.
