Death

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Death
Year Created:
Medium: Digital
Surface: Computer
Dimension: 486 x 746 pixels
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
The cherubs (cupids) left hand is being displayed with Stigmata on it, a reference to the death of Christ.
The right hand is pointing into the ground - this tograther with the bow and arrow next to it forming a cross symbolises the death of Love.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
I'd like critique on the composition and it's meaning, and on the stylised quality of the marks which I experimented with.
I wasn't interested in color for this piece as it's only a design study to be painted later in color.

Re: Death

interesting effects and i almost like it a lot
three things jump out as bothersome to me:
the diagonal white line under the chin (that wing looks in front vs behind)
the dark 'claws'
the foot leaving the 'canvas'

Appreciate the feedback. When I get around to painting this I'll take into consideration your suggestions.

Re: Death

Based on feedback I made a few adjustments, tell me what you think!
I'm not happy with the figure not being centralised, I'll fix this later.

consider placing an eyeball on the rule of thirds +
with the wing to foot diagonal i think it would work well

Re: Death

I've put the grid lines on, what do I do now?
I can't put an eyeball on the rule of thirds without it being way off center.

Re: Death

you are correct, but notice how the horse Is central in the overall comp.

given that this is a digital piece, you can place the [viewers] left eye on the + and widen the outer thirds to where you need them to be so that death can breath, can be more central and allow the toe [and upper wing] to not kiss the edge.

I'll admit, I never heard of the Rule of Thirds, but it looks promising.
You say to widen the outer thirds - surely they have to stay spaced in thirds for it to be effective..

Re: Death

ah, 'rules', pfft, they are but guidelines really, meant to be bent, wiggled and stretched.

here, again, is the horse ... cropped as previously shown
and widened beyond being equal thirds ...

are they both not effective?
