Re: Weekly paintings Southwest & Florida

Yes CaliAnn brush work is more gentle than palette knife - I get more arm motion with a blade and more swoop to each stroke of a blade. Which is the exact reason I switched to a palette knife - the increase in arm motion and swoop brings about all the texture and marblization of colors.

Re: Weekly paintings Southwest & Florida

I did my 36x48 gallery wrapped canvas this morning - lots of fun but a tad scary as this is the lsrgest canvas I've ever done. All 4 surfaces taped to simulate a
"matted look" palette knife using Chroma Interactive acrylics applied quickly with gusto and semi abstract passages.

You are nothing if not bold! This piece must be amazing in real life- I love the colors, and of course your sky is superb (as usual!)

You've tackled this painting with gusto. Love the beautiful, tropical colors, and that deep, dark horizon is a wonderful touch.

Re: Weekly paintings Southwest & Florida

I haven't visited for a little while Richard, but you have been producing some beautiful work. I love the purples and blues in Canyon Reflections. Your Open Fields is gorgeous: I look forward to seeing more brush work! Your large canvas is stunning and it must look wonderful IRL. Have you seen those apps which allow you to place your work in a room, to help give an idea of it's scale?

Richard - that was so cool watching your video - it really shows the size and impact of the painting with you standing in front of it and painting. Thanks my friend!

Re: Weekly paintings Southwest & Florida

I've started another 36x48 glarry wrapped canvas. Based on the sky I've created, this one is speaking SW landscape to me - time will tell.

Re: Weekly paintings Southwest & Florida

Excellent start, Richard! I agree...there's something southwest about that sky. Looking forward to seeing this one completed!

Re: Weekly paintings Southwest & Florida

Thanks Jenna - I always put the sky in first and then decide if it is a seascape or landscape sky and go from there.
