August 2018 Challenge - Join the Fun!

Welcome to the August Monthly Challenge! We welcome all mediums and skill levels in this challenge, so please feel free to join us. If you're new, jump right in - the more the merrier. If you're returning, welcome back! Glad to have you!

Please offer encouraging feedback on one another's artworks, but don't give any harsh critique unless it's requested by the artist. These are my photos with the exception of the two with cattle are from son, Larry. I hope you find some inspiration in them. Draw or paint them as they are, or crop them, edit them, mix them up, or create your own compositions. We all look forward to seeing what everyone will do for the Challenge this month! Have fun. The sky's the limit.

Wow Jo, all are superb! Tell Larry a big thanks from us for his, too! Quite a handsome longhorn! I saw two of them yesterday north of Lamesa.

I thought I'd give the cactus a try with op's. The thorns are super thick in mine A4

Tuscanny, thanks for getting us started. I like your color choices and technique on the cholla blooms. Beautiful.

I hope to paint with pastels on one of these today.

Christel Your cactus is lovely - the thorns don't look to thick at all from what I can see.

Jo WOW! Your pastel painting is superb! That sky is gorgeous, the buildings beautiful, the glow on the hills - I LOVE THIS - such a beautiful painting!!!!

Christel, you've really captured the texture of the flower petals and the thorns. You sure make oil pastels look easy! I love the gentle colors in this as well! Beautiful work!

Jo, this is so vivid. I love that sky, wow! Lovely work!

Re: August 2018 Challenge - Join the Fun!

I might try the longhorn cow. My grandson had some longhorns but I didn't think to take pictures of them while they were here.

The cactus blossoms and the sunset in pastels are gorgeous!
