WFM show at Smithsonian

Just received word that my work "Closing Ceremonies" (oil on Ivorine, 2 34" X 1 5/8") has been accepted into The Third Worlwide Exhibition of Fine Arts in Miniature to be held at the Smithsonian, Arts & Industries building next summer, June 20-July 12, 2004.

I am so excited I just can't contain myself.

That is wonderful minibrush, congratulations. Your miniatures are very inspiring to me so I am very glad to see your work recognised in this way.

I wish I could go to the exhibition but it is a long way to swim

Cheers,

Geoff

Thanks Geoff. It is very exciting.

I understand about the long swim, it's a long walk from here, too. But I'm going to try to find a way to attend.

Oh, thank you so much. Yes, more than thrilled. Stunned seems more like it. It's looking like I may just figure out a way to attend the show too. So that has me giddy.

Thanks again,

Minibrush

Congratulations!! It's gorgeous!! I loooooooooove doing miniatures!! Like having small houses, there's less work invloved... Course, I can't see without my glasses now either. <giggling>

I am sooooooooooooooooooo very new to all of this. How does one enter this competition? Is the deadline past? This seems to be one of my biggest set backs with my art: I never know where, when or how...... Is there a place in Wetcanvas that lists upcoming shows and all the info and if so, where is it? I can't find that either. I CAN find my pencils and paper though!!!

Hi again, Rose!! I'll make it back over to the Creative Juice Bar soon for the next Artist's Way thingy coming up!!!LOL! I can find my way back there now too!!

Thank you Aisling. This particular show was only open to members of the various worldwide miniature art societies. Each society had it's own deadline for the entries.

However, here is a link that usually has a pretty concise listing of shows. Just click their "Show" page, then choose your country of choice.

Thanks mini. I found that one plus the Royal Society and the other one, ( that starts with an "H"? ), in the U.K, plus the Florida Society the other night after some research online. Last question : where do you buy the Ivorine?!?!?!?

My interest in miniatures started because I used to collect Daguerrotypes. I even had old civil war era photos on Ivory, ( besides the copper version ), and on leather. My miniature paintings have just been on paper though; mostly Bristol Board in watercolor. I'd really love to try them on ivorine with oils or acrylics. If I believed in reincarnation, I'd say I must have been a miniature portraitist in a past life! I feel sooooooooo drawn to do these!!

Congrats again!! It's so nice to know there's a market for smaller paintings and miniatures now. Good luck on a win!

Edit: Nevermind. I always ask before looking. I found your thread with this info so will repost it here for anyone else interested :
