Copyright and body outline tracing.

Ok my main question is, is tracing considerd copyright infringement, Specificily if its just the outline of a body.
Example I come across a drawing of a cartoon women, I like her pose and body shape,so I trace her outline then start adding in the features I like.So say what started as a plump dark skinned women in a Borat style bikini is now a plump black and white ragdoll with button eyes in a two piece. They share the same body and hair style but are completely different otherwise.
Have I change enough for it to be considered a new piece of art or do I need to change more and if so how much.

Re: Copyright and body outline tracing.

Tracing off someone else's art is copyright infringement. There's no percent about it.

Make your own art. Life is too short to copy other people's. Can't draw a woman? Start drawing them. Practice. If you are patient enough to trace, you are patient enough to learn how to draw well.

Re: Copyright and body outline tracing.

Ok so if tracing is complete infringement.
1.Could I use someone else's drawing as a reference while I'm drawing to get the body shape I'm going for or is that still infrigement?
2. Lets say there is a nose style I would like to do for a my drawing that another artist uses if I use it is it infringement even if it just a nose?
3. Last one, if I took parts from different characters, body style from one, head, eyes, hair, hands, cloths from five others and put them together ,would I have created something unique or would I have infringed on 6 different people even though my work looks nothing like the other 6?

Re: Copyright and body outline tracing.

Are you planning to do this coping for study/practice, or for showing/selling?
There is a difference, if selling or "showing" is in the future plan it would be a copyright issue.
For own use & study/practice/learning , and no selling or public showing then OK.

Re: Copyright and body outline tracing.

Or find sites with free use images.. WC has a Image Library-
http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/

Other free or low-cost copyright-free images
[
Flickr Creative Commons
The Commons by Flickr
Behold
Wylio
PhotoPin
Internet Archive Book Images
The British Library's Flickr Stream

If you require high-resolution or independent artist contributions, there are several design studios and independent photographers offering limited licensing or works in the public domain.
Stock Snap

StockSnap.io has a large selection of stock photos. The site adds several hundred images each week, with thousands in its permanent database.

Unsplash contains high-resolution photos, and is considered one of the higher-quality free sites on the web. You must check each photo for copyright status before downloading and using, however most of them are released under the creative commons public domain license.

There are also books on the market with figures, faces, poses, etc. which are created for artist use.
