Leah - from Palo Alto Art center session
Palo Alto Art center has a really nice environment for drawing figures. Clean, temperate, well-lighted, roomy (lots of elbow room on Thursdays - I hear that Tuesday short sessions are more cramped). Model's name is Leah. Very confident model.
On the thread of drawing environments, Michael Markowitz (in San Francisco) has one of the most amazing set-ups for artists. He creates an environment that is full of energy. If anyone is in the area and is looking for someplace to draw, check it out!

Nice to see you here at Wetcanvas Tony!
Just wanted to welcome you to Wetcanvas!
I like your drawing very much...great line!! I like the way you've developed forms using primarily line. (I think I see a smudged area or two (?)-along her left shoulder, but as far as I can tell...99% of your development of this drawing was with line.
Very strong drawing. It appears some liberties were taken with anatomy. (It works in my opinion)
btw: this is also a very good example of how value can be constructed with line. Thank you for posting this drawing Tony.

btw: we have an instructor here who teaches (I believe) at Palo Alto Center..."Rebecca". Do you know of her, and her work?
Just curious.

Hi Tony,
Good to hear from other art centers around the country. What does an environment that is "full of energy" look like, can you give us some idea of how he creates this environ? thanks

That became so painful that I stopped painting for about five years. I’d get to a place, maybe an ecstatic moment, or maybe not that good, but somehow it was concluded... Why go and mess with it? But the idea would come to go back into it, assuming that the more times I’d go back into it, the better it’d get. Well, it’s just the reverse!! It doesn’t work that way. It’s a gift. It’s kind of given to you" -Nathan Oliveira

Thanks all!
I know of Rebecca and her works but have never met her in person. Was introduced to her site a few years back through a mutual model. Will likely gush if I talked any further about her work... but then, I'm easily impressed - especially by many of the artists on this forum.
I live about 1 hour from SF, so I haven't gone there to draw all too often. Michael Markowitz's drawing sessions really have a bit of everything - breakaway stages, versatile lighting system, excellent sound system with a fantastic music selection, top notch models, and a number of excellent artists. The room itself is not too big, nor too small. The room lends itself to a lot of tension and anticipation and variety - akin to being at the apex of your favorite movie - like there is a suspension of disbelief, you're at the edge of your seat and wanting to explode onto your drawing pad.
Incidentally, wanted to say thanks also to Sandra for recommending that I experiment with the background. She mentioned this in a previous posting and I consciously worked on it here. Still working on it, of course, but I definitely appreciated her feedback. Also, fyi, drawing was 30 minutes, pencil, 11x17.

Fabulous drawing, I'd love to see more images of that model
