Scavenger Hunt #513: Sept 25 - Oct 3

I shamelessly stole Jo’s excellent idea of hunting song titles. So there you go.

If you’d like to listen to the list, I made a Hunt #513 playlist on Spotify.
So if you have a Spotify account you can find it overhere:
https://open.spotify.com/user/jeroen...KYlE9hz5iafIqx

The hunting rules:
• All items must be sketched or painted from life---no photo references nor from imagination.
• As before, be as “creative” with the subjects as you want. Multiple subjects in a single drawing/painting is fine. Count them all!
• No time limit on the sketches…as much or as little detail as you wish.
• Any medium is welcomed.
• All items need to be drawn or painted new from the date this scavenger hunt starts.
• No certain order for completion. Number as you go to keep track of how many you've done.
• Feel free to ad a tidbit about the item and/or what made you select it.

Here is the list:
Scavenger Hunt #513. Sept 25 - Oct 3.

1. Autumn Leaves (Bill Evans)
2. Inside Out (Imelda May)
3. Gold (Spandau Ballet)
4. Hot Stuff (Donna Summer)
5. Pick a Number (Eli Paperboy Reed)
6. Under the Bridge (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
7. My Father’s Son (Joe Cocker)
8. Money (Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings)
9. Beast of Burden (Bette Midler)
10. Take Me Home Country Roads (John Denver)
11. Our House (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young)
12. Stormy Weather (Sarah Vaughan)
13. Hammer (Bob Marley & The Wailers)
14. Onions (John Lee Hooker)
15. Robots (Dan Mangan)
16. In a Hurry (Christian McBride)
17. Black Coffee (Ella Fitzgerald)
18. Fun (Sly & The Family Stone)
19. Grandma’s Hands (Bill Withers)
20. Spooky (Dusty Springfield)
21. Lost in the Supermarket (The Clash)
22. Walking Man (James Taylor)
23. Red, Red Wine (Neil Diamond)
24. Fat Bottomed Girls (Queen)
25. Oops, I did it again (Britney Spears)
26. Larger than Life (Backstreet Boys) This one’s for Jo. The George Ensle song with the same title is not on Spotify so I’ve added this to the playlist for you Jo

Jeroen, thanks for the list. More fun! Larger than Life made us smile. Gene says he likes his song better!

Here are the words, think country western ballad. George Ensle has the copyright, but it was written for Gene for his birthday.

Larger Than Life
© G. Ensle 2016
He’s a spinner of tales
A fisher of whales
Was a modern-day cowboy
Put the bad guys in jail
Now he leans on a cane
But he’s still in the game
And still full of willing and try

So step up to the bar
And buy him some wine
He’ll take you travelling
Back to a time
When a man was a man
Who fought the good fight
Living larger than life

He says, “I’s born poor as dirt
Out in New Mexico
I had eight brothers and sisters
Worked when I’s nine years old
I walked five miles to school
Uphill both ways.”
Well sometimes he gets carried away

[Chorus]

He said, “I married the Dutchman’s daughter
She loves me more every day
She still thinks I’m handy
And handsome in my own way
My kids are brilliant
And my grandkids are too
Did I ever tell you about when I was in Peru?”

When it comes to one-liners
He’s got plenty of those
He’ll keep you in stitches
And on your toes
He shares pearls of wisdom
Teaching you right from wrong
And he’s got some pretty good jokes and old songs

So step up to the bar
And buy him some wine
There’s a lot to be learned in this world
From old timers
And today he’s celebrating
Turning seventy-five
Still living larger than life

Signed on to hear the songs, but I'm off to the dentist this a.m. Nothing painful in the songs for that. Ha.

How cute your robot is, Ai! Love it and done with a mouse. Applause!

I sketched in the big book at the table, quickly, with the Micron 01.

Number 1, onions (rarely have onions around)
Number 2, black coffee in my glass thermo mug.

My father was German decent and here in the southwest they called the Germans, Dutch. So he was known as Dutch. When World War I broke out the family was speaking German and Spanish only. My great grandfather said he would have nothing German in his world, he was American. They only spoke English and Spanish and did not eat German food after that, so I have no German except for my name and it was given the spelling Knoblock. Knoblauch - garlic (Smiling)

@Jo Ah, I get it. 'German' in German is 'Deutsch', what has about the same sound as 'Dutch'

Love your coffee and spring onions

Jo - that is not unique to the southwest. My mother's family came from PA. Growing up I always heard my mother and my aunts refer to themselves as Pennsylvania Dutch. Studying religions in high school I found out that the Amish and Mennonites are also called Pennsylvania Dutch. They were in fact mostly Swiss and German. My mother's maiden name was Schneider. Strangely enough my mother was a dressmaker. :-)

Ai - nice digital robot and extra props for using a mouse.

Jo - We are the opposite there is onion, leeks, scallions or garlic in virtually all our main dishes. But you drew them well. I like your mug. We are currently hooked on travel mugs to help keep things either hot or cold.

I instantly thought of an sp when I saw My Father's son on the list. I used the FaceTime camera Vice a mirror with extra effort not to have that stern sp look. I thought I did well until I showed it to my bride. She asked who it was.

1 My father's son - 5h 2mm graphite in 5.5 x8.5 in sketchbook

Keep sketching

Joe, your father's son is great. Too bad it doesn't look like you. Evil grin.
We do eat a lot of garlic but not many onions. Raw are OK with sandwiches or in salad. Not a fan of big pieces of cooked onions. I use them for flavor like in pot roast and throw them away, guess it is a texture thing.
