Scavenger Hunt #506: Jul 31-Aug 8, 2017

Pls. help sign up as a host to any Scavenger Hunt in this thread.
… Thanks a bunch...

These are the hunting rules:
- All items must be sketched or painted from life --- no photo references nor from imagination.
- Be as “creative” with the subjects as you want. Multiple subjects in a single drawing/painting is fine. Count them all!
- No time limit on the sketches… as much or as little detail as you wish.
- Any medium is welcomed.
- All items need to be drawn or painted new from the date this scavenger hunt starts.
- No certain order for completion. Number as you go to keep track of how many you've done.
- Feel free to ad a tidbit about the item and/or what made you select it.
- Have fun

Here are the list:

Scavenger Hunt #506: Jul 31-Aug 8

Have fun and thanks for joining this Hunt.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #506: Jul 31-Aug 8, 2017

item #1 - give out a visual / an image

block of Post-it sticky notes

This block of Post-its has always had a weird effect on me of bringing to mind retro images and colors, seemingly from nowhere. So reading Ai's list, it seemed like the right thing to sketch. The Post-it block is from life, but the background setting I created for it is from the "visual that it gave out" or the ideas that materialized from it. In other words, from my imagination.

Tools:

iPad Pro, Apple Pencil.

Procreate app for the sketch.

Art Studio app for the crop, border, and export.

Process:

Virtual acrylic on virtual wood panel.

Freehand, no digital drafting tools or tracing.

No digital grid or smoothing or symmetry or cloning.

No filters or effects. No color intensification or exaggeration.

Reference (actual sticky block) located several inches away.

Background from imagination.

Ai, thanks for the list! Looks interesting. Gonna make me think. Evil grin.

Pine Cone, that is a very visual idea. I like the sketch and background.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #506: Jul 31-Aug 8, 2017

I got the Apple Pencil to go with my hand me down iPad Pro. Lots to learn so I can use the tricks. It works pretty good with ArtRage. But lots to learn, as I said. Ha.

I sketched in the big book with a Prismacolor chisel edge marker. Nice but soaks through a bit. I should go lightly and then again to darken it.

Number 1, something with a handle - One of Gene's canes and a handy picker-upper thingy.

That made me smile. It is to pick up things from the floor so you don't have to bend over or to reach something on a shelf.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #506: Jul 31-Aug 8, 2017

Ai, Thanks much

Jo, Thanks, and good work on two difficult pieces of equipment! Great detail, especially for a marker!

And I'm so excited that you got yourself an Apple Pencil and an iPad Pro!!! Don't worry about learning the Apple Pencil.

Basically, you just hold your new toy like any pencil or pen. And like any pencil, you can kind of lay it on its side and shade thick with it (if your program supports that). And that's all you really have to know! Just draw or write like usual. You're good to go!!!

Later on, if you want, and if your program supports it, you can do stuff with it in settings, but it isn't necessary to EVER do that unless you want to. Have fun and please let us see what you do!!!

Pine Cone, thanks for encouragement. Smile.

Scatty, love seeing your beautiful work. The waves made me laugh as I look at my coffee cup!

I sketched in the big book with a Micron 05.
Number 2, your minimal set of favorite art materials - small sketchbook and pen
Number 3, rectangle - new set of Prismacolors

Scatty, Love the emerald/blue leaves and the flowers made of the sun! Very appealling! Beautiful work on the brush as well, and I loved following the lettering Great idea for "waves"

JoC, Perfect answer for your minimal set. I couldn't think what to do. I'm all over the map. Your sketch of your kit is perfect. Your markers look awesome too. Do you like them? I don't think I've tried Prismacolors. Are they difficult to handle?
