Scavenger Hunt 500 June 13-21

If you've participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=366347

Here are the rules for the hunt:

*All items on the list must be sketched from life - not imagination or photo reference.

*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.

*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.

*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.

Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don't have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt "week" will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.

Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.

*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyways. Commenting is appreciated but not necessary. ***

I thought it would be fun to see what Hunt #1 was like and use it for this Scavenger Hunt 500, so here you go. Have fun!

Scavenger Hunt 500 June 13 - 21

Number 1 was on July 5, 2006
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show...357140&page=16

So here it is, go for all 26 items!
Can't decide what to sketch, paint, or draw? Join the July scavenger hunt! Participants should aim to sketch, draw, or paint as many items as they can (from life of course) from this list during the month of July. Winner gets a gold star, and gets to select the August project.

1 piece of fruit/vegetable
1 live animal
1 portrait or figure
1 candle
1 sculpture
1 glass, mug, pitcher, or pot
1 musical instrument
1 egg in any form
1 hat
1 sneaker, shoe, sandal, boot, or pair
1 stuffed animal
1 dessert---pie, cake, candy, chocolate, ice cream, etc.
1 lamp
1 chair
1 plant or flower
1 vehicle (real or toy)
1 paint tube
1 jar or bottle
1 vase
1 tape dispenser or stapler
1 architectural item---building, barn, shed, birdhouse, etc.
1 stack of books
1 piece of crumpled paper
1 marble, bead, or pebble
1 household appliance (blender, sewing machine, iron, coffee pot, vacuum cleaner, etc.)
1 pair of scissors or eyeglasses

Post your items to this thread, and keep counting! Number them as you go, in the order in which you do them. (So, the first item you paint will be #1, regardless of its position on the list.) Feel free to add your comments here as well. The first person to finish them all is automatically the winner. If nobody does all of them, then whoever comes closest at the end of the month is the winner. You may include more than one item in a sketch/painting, and just number accordingly, listing the items to keep track. Items need not be completed in order. There are 26 items total, so when you reach #26, you're done.

Most of all, HAVE FUN! I can't wait to see what everybody comes up with.

Jamie

Re: Scavenger Hunt 500 June 13-21

Well, I just had fun and went to look at the first Hunt. Our "J", dear Jeanne, has been here since the first. I joined in two or three and Joan has been around almost as long. Congratulations! Others have wandered in and out. Thanks to Jamie for starting the fun! It has been a pleasure to meet all of you!

I sketched today and will post soon. Internet is shakey in hotels. We have to move from our neat cabin to a regular room today, cabins are full.

Ai, I love your digis - so colorful and the variation in line weight defies what I usually think of in digital sketches. Can't decide whether banana or beads are my favorite, so hard to choose.

Ai, nice digi work. I like the beads. The banana makes me hungry. And, the lamp makes me smile, like it's nodding its head.

Re: Scavenger Hunt 500 June 13-21

A few sketches in the small travel sketchbook with Micron 08 which is a bit bigger than I usually use. Messy for me. Ha.

Number 1, lamp - a couple in the room. The top one is leatherette Indian design and the other has metal ducks.
Number 2, glasses - mine and though I didn't number them, I will say
Number 3, beads as they are the only ones I have with me, turquoise and silver.

Number 4, hat
Number 5, vehicle

Re: Scavenger Hunt 500 June 13-21

Well, I sketched pretty big about 9 x 12 or a bit bigger. I sketched the idea in pencil, put on my watercolor, then added the ink. Probably a bit over an hour.

Number 6, live animal - these are mules and of course moved the second I started. They disappeared completely when I started doing color. They are back close to the fence about 4 hours later. Ha.

Jo: Love the line sketches--the car, the hat, and the lamp... the landscape with mules is top-notch...I can feel the fresh air of the mountain... very inspiring...

Re: Scavenger Hunt 500 June 13-21

Happy #500 everyone!!!!

I just went on a different kind of hunt to find exactly when I started the hunts. My first time was Hunt #38 back in April 2007. That means I've been participating for over 10 years!

I did see some hunters back then that I haven't seen here in a very long time, but I still see posts from on Facebook and other places like Nitsa, Cairo, and Helen. It is nice to see that Jo, Jeanne, Joe, and Robin were all participating before me and are still going strong.

Jo - Thanks for the throwback hunt. Interesting lamps from your room. Nice relaxed sketch of the hat by the window. Good vehicle too. I had to laugh when you said the mules moved away...they are never cooperative are they? Interesting to see a watercolor and ink from you.

Ai - Your digis are getting so good. Really nice job oh the banana and the lamp. My favorite has to be all those colorful beads in the necklace.

1 - figure - ink
2 - hat
3 - chair - ink
4 - vehicle

Joan, love your beach scenes. You know I'm not a beach person, but your sketches make me want to be there. I like your figures. Two kinds of vehicles, cool.

You have been around for a long time. Another was Julie, with the "nakid" Barbie. EP, we see once in a while. Sweet Kivrin, RIP. So many....fun!
