Willard Metcalf copyright

Willard Metcalf died in 1925, so what's the copyright situation on his works?

Re: Willard Metcalf copyright

So from what I gather about the information on Wikipedia all of those works are free to reproduce (or at least attempt to) given the fact I give credit to him which I obviously would.. reason being for all this is just simply a study of American Impressionism.. are there certain works that are still under copyright for some reason?

Re: Willard Metcalf copyright

As I understand it, copyright persists for 70 years after the death of the artist in the US and most of Europe.

Re: Willard Metcalf copyright

Hey JDawg,

The site, the-atheneaum.org, that I mentioned in the thread about American Impressionism in the Art History forum provides info on whether the works the have images for are in public or private domain. If the work is still copyrighted they only provide a thumbnail. They show Metcalf's work in the public domain. And they have 207 images of his work! Click on the Art tab in the link below.

Best of luck with your project. Hope this helps!

Laura
