Scavenger Hunt #495

If you've participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=366347

Here are the rules for the hunt:

*All items on the list must be sketched from life - not imagination or photo reference.

*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.

*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.

*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.

Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don't have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt "week" will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.

Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.

*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyways. Commenting is appreciated but not necessary. ***

Here's the list:

Something that crawls
Something that runs

Something decorative
Something soft

Something in the garden
Something round
Something square(any quadrangle)
Something white
Something wild
Something green
Something you read
Something fresh

Challenges:
1. Sketch one item from 3 different angles
2. Use a whole page in your sketchbook for just one of the items
3. Sketch one item in 2 different mediums
4. Put the item you draw in a cup (for jo's digital cup collection)

Key is have fun!
Joe

Re: Scavenger Hunt #495

Joe, thanks for thinking of me for my collection!

We had overnight company twice this past week and our son tonight. Will try to get started on this challenging list.

Ai, the boat/skido sketch is soooo nice. Smiling.

Joe, thanks for the new list. Hope to get a few done.

Ai, great sketch from the beach of the jet ski and the banana boat. I'd bet the girls wanted to do that.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #495

I sketched on the other porch in the big book with a Micron 01. I tried the challenge to use the whole page, almost. Smiling.

Number 1, fresh - I love sheets dried outside for a fresh outdoor smell!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #495

Jo -there are 20 products on the market that try to tell you they smell that fresh but ain't nothing like a line dried sheet. Hmmm And a nice sketch to boot. Close enough on the challenge, I count it.

Joan - love the interpretation of something that runs, made me smile. Nice sketching on both tissues, grapes and bottle. The hand should be extra credit.

Ai - LOVE the fishing boats. Nice work on foreshortening. Looks like a great vacation spot.

Keep sketching
Joe

Re: Scavenger Hunt #495

Good morning, all!

Joan, yummy eats. Like the lines on the tissue box and water. Good idea on the angle of the bathroom and clever runs.

Ai, looks like a great place for your vacation. The painting is gorgeous and good perspective.

I went to the porch off my studio to sketch. I sketch on the screened in porch with my feet up and you have seen all that multiple times. So, a change of scenery with the Mircron 01 in the huge book.

Number 2, from the garden - the view to the street
Number 3, green - leaves and grass
Number 4, saved - the pots from Peru, a bit warped but not as bad as my sketch!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #495

Ai, good job on the foreshortening. Love those unusual boats in the harbor!!

Thanks, Ai, Joe and Jo!

Jo, super pots in your sketch on the porch.

Spent the day traveling to Maine in the rain. We didn't take the ferry partway like usual so I had no sketching opportunity on the way. Then it rained the rest of the evening here. Too much talking and catching up to do any sketching. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry and I can get outdoors for a while.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #495

jo - nice sketch. pots look super cool. Purely decorative or do you keep things in them

joan - glad it was a safe trip even if a bit wet,

Have not sketched in a few days as I got new set of drawers to store color pencils and I am organizing them. Sounds a lot easier than it is, at least for me

Keep sketching
Joe

Re: Scavenger Hunt #495

Still on a vacation ... a popular Cafe "AirSpace" with
Aviation theme... a bit pricy... but for our Scavenger Hunt spirit....we all worth it ... hahaha...

PS. I used to be an exchanged student visiting Vermont in 1987-88, my kind host family took me to Air & Space museum in Washington DC. to see the Wright Brothers real first plane... It was such a fond memory of mine...

#4 a replica of the thing that flies (a replica of the Wright Brothers' first plane...)
