Homebound - xp sw/western

18 x 24 inches, on masonite with a few coats of Colorfix clear primer. This is my first painting in about a year, yikes.... But it felt good to get my hands dirty and stained from pastel pigment again!

A combination of several of my own reference photos. Challenging to do, but very freeing to be able to tell my own story and not be a slave to whatever a single photo can provide

Mt vision, Lugwigs, a few Art Spectrums

You did a great job on this one.
The evening sky is beautiful and I like
that you showed different ages of cattle.

Wow, Ron, this is stunning! The way you kept the animals and rider all in one value group really makes them stand out. The sky is gorgeous! Working from multiple photos is hard and you pulled it off so well. I hope you'll be painting more often. It's always great to see your work here!

I was wondering where you went! Nice to see you back. You took on the challenge, and it's fantastic! High drama, great light and a little action.

Re: Homebound - xp sw/western

bobbymac - thanks, glad you like it
Perry- thank you, cattle were fun, but I was getting tired of painting all those legs and hoofs!
Donna- always appreciate your kind words, thanks! Yeah, my value masses were important and I was conscious of that throughout the painting process, even how the rider and cattle form a sort of triangle shape.....
Karen- thanks a bunch, and yes, great to be painting again....life just takes over sometimes.....

Really like this, home country for me! I'm impressed with how much detail you get with the pastels, something I've not been able to do yet.

Beautifully done, Ron. Love the composition and the use of light. Makes me want to saddle up my QH and join the drive for home.

I like the triangle created by that grouping - it gives power and a room to the scene.

Great drama and sweep of the composition right down to the little guy trailing behind!
