Re: Battle over Europe

Over the last four days I have altered the background and the rest of the time been working on the main aircraft. This has now been taken in the best of light there is a yellow cast in the photo the bottom and on the left. still working on the port wing. The red patches are connected to the other aircraft which I will get to one at a time.

Re: Battle over Europe

I am wondering, why the exhaust and oil stains on the top of the wings, have a green shade to them? It will be an excellent, action-filled depiction, but before you finish it, if it has to be corrected (if you so desire), better now, than later.

BTW, may be helpful, there is a great picture of this on Ebay, with a lot of detail. It is the last one, with three sold, for $6.95.

Re: Battle over Europe

Tone down the colours of the aircraft

B-17's Drab Olive turned a dull greenish purple and the red of the tail faded very quickly

And there is something drastically wrong with the main B-17's fuselage .... the front section is going a different direction from the rear section, it might be something as simple as the way you are showing the front windscreen .... should you be seeing the front windscreen when the A/C is at that angle to the viewer ?

The black squadron markings should be more of a misty mushy dark grey & not actually jet black ..... distancing

Re: Battle over Europe

update. There is still four more a/c to go on the painting. RegisR on the silver aircraft the exhausts making were not as dark as on the camouflaged B17s

Re: Battle over Europe

for sure the under lying surface will make a huge difference to the exhaust staining a bare metal finish is poles apart from matt olive green ,, also of note was the purple comment about the olive finish ,, I wouldn't be too hasty on that one either I'd say it bleaches to a paler shade ,,, the purple idea probably comes from poor quality old colour film stock of the day that depicted olive greens as purples at times ,,, a howler airfix made through following old film stock was to release the first version of the B17 " a bit o lace " with box art and instructions depicting control surfaces in purple it was later discovered film stock had made salvaged olive control panels appear purple on the bare metal airframes they were fitted to

Re: Battle over Europe

Ever see the B-17s used in Memphis Belle - Sally B etc

The had historical experts weathering those aircraft ..... the Olive green was a murky green with a purple hue

You are forgetting the suns power is much stronger at 20,000ft and it affects the paint very quickly .... especially Matte paint

Leave your car unpolished and see how long it takes the paint to fade ... Red is the worst colour car to have

Re: Battle over Europe

I'm a fan of this one. Nice perspective and differing angles of the flight paths make it really interesting.
